Hi all
I need a cure or something for blotchy skin. After having my son, my skin went crazy and I broke out. I'm now getting it under pretty good control w/ the help of astringent and acne medicine. Now I have old acne marks and some newer zits.
I use bare minerals and some regular store bought stuff (bronzer) but after about 5 hours, my skin looks like h3ll!! I don't know how to keep the makeup on longer, I've even tried moisturizer and it looks worse. If I use anything like covergirl my face breaks out like crazy but I'd prefer to not spend a bunch of money on bare minerals kits. I feel like the older I've gotten the uglier I've gotten unless I pile on makeup before taking photos or going out into public.
I guess what I'm trying to ask is:
1. What are some remedies you've used to get rid of red marks/blotchiness
2. What makeup do you recommend besides insanely expensive ones that you can only buy at specialty stores/Ulta/Sephora?
Re: Blotchy Skin
My skin is crazy too. I break out a lot from drugstore products too. After trying a lot of mineral based products I have gone back to clinique products. They are pretty reasonable priced if you watch for the bonus time sales.
I also get blotchiness and red marks. I make myself a weekly mask of organic honey and lemon juice and put it on my face for 30 minutes. I've noticed the red marks have faded some after I do it each time. After doing this for several weeks I can say there is a difference. I even went to work yesterday without makeup on just mascara.
If you still want to stick with minerals merle norman makes a very simple (low ingredient list) mineral foundation that doesn't have fillers that typically cause a break out. The only thing is that it oxidizes so if you go and get matched for it, go do errands or something for a few hours and then check to see which one matches you. I think it costs about twenty bucks for a huge jar of it. I've also had some luck with physicians formula organic powder but it seems to not last very long and you don't get as much as the merle norman powder.
Have you tried not using the Bare Minerals? A lot of people are allergic to the Bismuth Oxychloride and it make them break out.
I have had good luck with Clinque and Bobbi Brown. It might be worth splurging on a foundation and then using drug store blush, eyeshadow, etc. I have always had good luck with Neutrogena makeup. Also, a primer may help with staying power.
If it were me, I'd be more concerned with how to get my skin in better shape than with how to cover it up... Have you tried Mario Badescu products before? If you go to their site & click on "Consulting," you'll fill out all your info about your skin. They'll recommend products, and about a day after you fill out the info, they'll send you an email asking if you'd like to be sent samples. Getting the samples is how I totally fell in love with this line- My skin has never looked or felt better in my life. Can't recommend them enough... Their products are a little more expensive, but totally worth it.
I also second to try and stop using the Bare Minerals- At first I thought it was working great for my skin, but then discovered it was the cause of my skin drying out and breaking out.
GL!
