Surviving cat - signs of grief?
I have not lurked much on this board, but I did not see this topic covered in your FAQs or on the first page, so I hope you will forgive me if this is a silly or frequent question.
We suddenly lost our 4 year old Siamese/domestic shorthair mix cat yesterday. Both our cats were closed into the laundry room every night, to prevent them from waking our daughter. When my husband went to let them out yesterday morning, Rocky was gone. Just laying on his blanket as if he was asleep, but gone. Our vet thinks he had a bad heart, but he showed no signs of illness before his death, and had been acting normal the night before we lost him. We are pretty devastated. Just three months ago we had to put our 10 year old dog down, so this loss is even harder to understand.
Our one remaining pet is our 5-year old domestic shorthair. Our two cats got along wonderfully, and now I am afraid how being alone will impact the remaining one. Is there anything I can do for him? Signs I should watch for? I dont think we will be getting any more pets for a while, but what can I do to keep him from getting lonely? My husband and I both work during the week, and so no one is home with him during the day. TIA for any advice.

I'd look out for lethargy or lack of appetite for starters. Also, I'd make sure to spend as much time with him and give him lots of attention while you are home with him because he won't have another pet to hang around with during the day. It'll take him some time to adjust to being a single cat, but eventually he'll come around.
I'm so sorry for your losses... it's never easy, no matter how many times you go through it.

You can also try rescue remedy and feliway. Both products are designed to help with stress, and feliway is specifically designed for cats. I've used both products and really like them.
