Moving to a condo in downtown

Ladies,

We have owned our three bedroom house for almost 6 years.  It is in a traditional neighborhood and close to shopping, restaurants, and such.   However, my husband and I have really been thinking about putting our house on the market and moving to a condo in our downtown area.  We do not want children and really a three bedroom house is too much to take care of.  We would like to be able to walk to dinner, drinks, and entertainment.   What factors should I consider?  Any advice is appreciated:)

Re: Moving to a condo in downtown

  • Things to consider:

Are you able to buy or lease only

Are you allowed to paint/are there noise restrictions etc (if the building is managed by a managment company...find out exactally what thier guidelines are)

    what are the HOA fees

How many parking spots AND how much is it to get an extra parking spot if you need more then one

if possible...find out when there was last a major issue with the building and how long it took managment to get it fixed.

Who built the building and thier repuations (we have a few buildings around here that are beautiful...but non stop problems..and no suprise all built by the same company)

    Is there visitor parking

These are just some of the things that living in a highrise in the past has taught me to look out for...thankfully we only rented because I can't imagine buying and THEN paying monthly HOA/building fees on top of a morgage!
