Whole house paint color

We just moved and the house we bought is the original builder's white from 15 years ago.  I was hoping to do the whole house in a beige/tan.  Does anyone know of a color that would work throughout the house?

Re: Whole house paint color

  • Almost any neutral color would work - you just to not want it to be too dark.

I would recommend buying a SW color palate fan or a Benjamin Moore one.

Take it home and see what appeals to you.  Both companies have the individual color strips as well (free) , but I have used my pallate fan extensively. When you make a choice - buy a sample and put it on the wall to see how different lighting during the day looks to you.

Consider what other colors you want to use in the house for furniture, drapes, rugs accessories.  Would you want tans, greens, grays or something else as a neutral?

I did not use the same color thru out the house --- but I did use 5 shades on one color strip on our first floor.  (if you want color contrast - it must be 2 shades of difference) - it flows nicely - each room has a different feel, yet is also connected to the others.

  • I agree with PP.

I have done several new construction homes that require a spray out color for all walls and ceilings, some of the colors I did most often are SW 6106 Kilim Beige, SW7517 China Doll, SW 7555 Patience, SW7554 Steamed Milk and SW7572 Lotus Pond.  These colors are all pretty light and neutral but have different undertones.
