Iphone Woes

So I have an iphone and I love it I just bought a iphone 4 in July and have had no problems until today. It just randomly "crashed" basically i can't get it to turn on and it was on at the time. The screen is blank and no matter how much I hold down the on/off button it does nothing. I took it to AT&T and they couldn't even get it to work and said call Apple. Call them and of course they want $70 to tell me what to do over the phone OR I could look online at the same stuff they are charging me for. So I look online and try everything it says and still nothing.

My only other option is to send it to them which will take about a week at least. Or I can go buy a new phone and lose all my contacts. Ugh so frustrating! I have no idea what to do and honestly would just like to cry right now.

Re: Iphone Woes

  • Does the phone not have any sort of warranty on it? It seems like they'd at least warranty it for the first year.

Do you have an apple store around you? They have this "genius bar" that is really great for troubleshooting/fixing these types of problems.

  • I don't know how to trouble shoot this (this would be H's job), but if you were to get a new phone, all your contacts, pictures, etc should be stored on a sim card. This card could be transferred to a new phone. I have heard of this happening with iphones, which is why I steered clear and have a Samsung Galaxy.

    I'd try Apple's website....

  • I have tried the website it was no help. We have no Apple stores here. The closest is Dallas which is about 3 hours away. They told me I only had a 30 day warranty BUT I qualify for lower rates for help over the phone.

I had an iphone before this one and it was great no problems ever other than being slow on occasion. And H has had several of them with no problems from the phone (just him.) H is going to mess with it and see what he can come up with. But it is looking like I am just going to get a new phone. They would be able to transfer information IF I could get my phone back up. With it off it won't transfer information.

  • So H got it working. He did the same thing I have been doing to it all day. He just touches it and it comes up. The guy at the At&t store couldn't even get it to work.

Oh I don't know what I would do without him sometimes.

  • hahah sometimes I hate how my H "fixes" things I swear are broken, he thinks I makes things up haha! Glad you got your phone working!

  • My last phone (not an IPHONE or a smartphone mind you - but it was touchscreen) used to do this all the time to me.....the screen would turn off so I couldnt do anything...sometimes it would stay off for a minute, sometimes it would take a couple days (since I was too cheap for a new phone I just kept trying to turn it on every so often until it worked again)

I was told by the phone company it has to do with dropping it to much and the connections in the phone shifting over time to a point where they don't always respond propery to the signals being sent to them from the buttons/power. However they still wanted to charge me the price of a new phone to do anything about it so I just got a new one anyways.

I have friends who to this day think I made it up to get out of answering them because it always seemed to work except if I needed it right.....

Haha, in situations like this I don't know whether to be elated or furious.  Glad to hear it worked out!

  • If you live near an Apple store, definitely go. Show them your phone and explain what happened. My husband got a new one just because the screen had some time of burn through and the main button was no working all the time. They should be able to replace it for you and transfer all your contacts. You could try plugging the phone into your computer and see what happens. Good luck.
