Should I get the protection plan?
I am buying a low end laptop ($399) from Best Buy tonight. Should I get the protection plan? I have heard mixed reviews. Do you think it's worth it?
Re: Should I get the protection plan?
By now you've probably already made your purchase and your decision but I think the best answer comes from the amount of cost you're talking about on a $399 laptop. Now, granted, laptops should probably have the protection because there are so many things that could go wrong with this sensitive equipment; however, to pay 30% of the purchase price to protect a "what if" may not be so wise. I'd think if you can get a year (standard warranty) out of your purchase, you've done well because after that year the laptop it going to be obsolete... why repair it when you should probably just replace it? If the warranty is less than $100, it may be a good investment. How rough will you be on the equipment? How long do you plan to keep it? How much does the warranty cost and what does and what DOESN'T it cover??? Only *YOU* can answer those things.
