football fans--replacement refs

I didn't get a chance to post this yesterday, but I truly think that the replacement refs are terrible. The real referees have to be sitting back and thinking "these bozos are making our case for us."

I haven't followed all details related to the lockout, but I think the NFL needs to do something to get the real referees back. Monday night's game was a travesty.

Re: football fans--replacement refs

  • I feel bad for the replacement refs. This is all new to them. I assume they all have some experience with being a ref, but still I think it is brave of them to step up to do this. A lot of refs at other levels wouldn't "cross the picket line" and had no one taken the spot we wouldn't be enjoying any fall football.

As for the strike itself. I think they are all whiny babies and I don't care.  I do think that without good refereeing the players could be experiencing more risk for injury. And it is frustrating to see what seems like an obvious call not be made even when they review the play.

And the normal refs were not perfect anyway... maybe these new ones will improve as the season progresses?

agreed.  "real" refs make controversial calls every Sunday.   i sort of feel bad for them too.   It's not like Americans are boycotting the NFL because of replacement refs.  If anything, football is already getting a bigger spotlight than it already has.... it's either deal with the blown calls vs. no football season at all.

i think it's funny how up-in-arms people are about this.... God forbid a pittsburgher saying this, but it's just football!

  • I definitely agree they're not perfect, but there's a big difference between refereeing third tier college football and refereeing the NFL, and it's definitely shown.

Apparently the NFL has noticed as well, because negotiations are in full swing, and the real guys may be back by sunday

  • I can honestly say that I'm not sure what the regular season reps are picketing for, but I agree that, while the replacements need to be relieved of their jobs, it can;t be easy on them either. NFL is way different than college. I think my biggest hangup about it all is that the players are more susceptible to getting hurt now... Hopefully they do figure this out soon!

Soooooo..... how about that hockey lockout?!

Embarrassed, but I admit I don't pay attention to hockey until playoffs.  There are too many games in the season. I can't commit to that.

This I am concerned about! As a huge hockey fan, I will be very sad if I have to go through another  hockey lockout. I don't care so much about football.
