Is this dress Black Tie event worthy?
I just had a baby a month ago and have to go to a black tie event for my husband's work in 2 weeks. I can't find anything I feel decent in, but this was flattering enough when I tried it on. Does this work? And if so, how would you accessorize it (shoes/jewelry/something to keep my shoulders warm)? I'm no fashionista and SO appreciate any guidance!
Re: Is this dress Black Tie event worthy?
When I hear black tie, I also think of a long gown, but depending on the details of the event (venue, weather, etc) I think a knee length dress could work as well. (I double checked myself on wikipedia, and they say knee length is fine too, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_tie). With that said, I think the dress you picked out would be appropriate.
If by black tie, they actually mean black tie... then you should find a long gown, and your hubs should probably wear a tux. If by black tie, they mean dress up a little bit... then this will be fine.
Can you ask a CW of your husband to see what people have worn in the past?
That is a cute dress... if you are concerned becasue you just had a baby, consider an a-line dress. The a-line is suppose to flatter any body type. I agree that with a black tie event the dress should be long. You can always find a shaw or long scarf to drape around your shoulders. I would accessorize with a matching clutch purse, shoes with a small heel (something easy to walk in), simple drop earrings and a delicate bracelet. If you go to any specialty store or any department store I am sure you can always ask for help and an opinion. Maybe try Macy's or Nordstrom.
Hope this helps some!
