we are highly interested in a home that fits everything on our check list, except the lot is really narrow and long. So the driveway only fits one car.
Meaning, we'd have to park tandum, or in the road (which is allowed overnight) its a surburban neighborhood and all the other houses in the neighborhood have "traditional" parking, it just happens to be that this lot was too narrow.
we could eventually figure something out with the parking, but it maneas taking 4" from the front yard, or digging up the entire front to put in some kind of circular driveway, or a car port on the other side of the front of the house.
Will having this tandum parking situation affect our resale?
Right now, its not an issue for us, since my husband and i have similar shcedules and leave at the same time every morning.
Re: Resale on Tandum parking
Agreed. We wouldn't either. It doesn't work well if you have more than one person coming and going and you care about which car you take.
There are people though who will buy houses like the OPs because either they don't care or it's not an issue for them (one car, don't need to take a certain car, etc).
This actually brought up a really good point. I didn't consider the fact that its even more of a non-issue for us, because we can take whichever car. I never considered that because i always tend to take "my car" but in reality, it doesnt matter which one i take.
also -there is on street parking.
WE did end up putting in an offer. we figured in the future we can always expand the driveway.
Having true on-street parking does make things a lot easier.
The reason I mentioned having to take specific cars is I work at a military facility where my parking pass is tied to the make/model/plate number of the car. I have to take "my" car or they won't let me past the gates. That's just one example.
At the end of the day though, you'll find things like numbers of bedrooms, bathrooms, etc will affect you more than the tandem driveway. Especially if a good deal of your neighbors have the same setup.
