Need help with front door color

Anyone have any ideas for a front door color? I was thinking a dark green, but our roof is a hunter green color and I read that the front door should be a different color than the roof. What do you think?

Re: Need help with front door color

  • Depends what look you like... my first reaction when I saw it was "YELLOW!" but I am drawn to bright colored doors.

More subtle options might be dark green (just make sure its a diff shade the the roof), a dark ash gray, strip the paint off and stain it a rich wood color. If you are leaving the screen on...I actually think the white is good since it contrasts nicely with the brick.

  • I think red would blend too much with the brick.  I don't have a problem with dark green.  Dark grey might be okay too.
  • I agree with a bright colored door, like yellow. Or, you can do a rich subtle color. I was actually thinking of a dark purple color would be pretty. You could certainly paint the doors green if you wanted. Our house is a mid-tone green (Benjamin Moore Cedar Path) with a forest green door. You want to draw the eye to the front door, rather than hiding it. I wouldn't do red. A brick front house down the street from us painted the shutters black, trim white, and yellow for accent. They may have painted the door black. In any case, it looks quite nice. So, those colors will work nicely with brick.
  • You definitely don't want to do red with the brick.

You could pretty much do almost any other color. I like the green or yellow suggestions. Although I think the white looks fine.

  • I would go with a dark green. The roof looks faded enough that the door wouldn't be the same colour.
