Missed periods on the pill
Two months ago, I switched what birth control pill I was taking (from Beyaz to Lo Loestrin Fe). Last month, I missed my period. I checked the info packed for my pills, and it said it's not unusual to miss a period so if you only missed one not to worry. It said however that if you miss two in a row you should contact your healthcare provider. I just missed my second period. I took a home pregnancy test, and it was negative. Do I still have to contact my doctor, or is the purpose of contacting my doctor covered by the home pregnancy test? I feel a little silly calling my doctor to say that I missed two periods, but I know I'm not pregnant. Aren't they just going to say, "then you're not pregnant"?
Re: Missed periods on the pill
I'm on Loestrin Fe 24 (the same as yours only I have 4 iron pills instead of a full week) and was concerned when suddenly I stopped getting periods a couple years ago.. I contacted my Dr and she said it's incredibly common on Loestrin. Your body recognizes that you're trying to "trick" it so it just stops ovulating. She said it's absolutely NO big deal and that the moment I decide to go off it, my bod will notice and switch back to normal. I haven't gained weight, I have no mood swings, no cramps, no anything
) I LOOOOVE this BCP! haha
If you want to contact your Dr to make yourself feel better, but if you google it, you'll notice that it's incredibly common and hasn't shown to have a harmful effects, other than the normal and typical warning that come with any BCP.
You will drive yourself crazy until you get to the docs!!
Never think that any question you ask a doctor is islly! Thats what they are paid to do answer all your questions.
At first, definitely. But then I just got used to it after a couple months and now I don't even think about it.
I have been on Lo Loestrin 24 for over a year and, like you, my periods got lighter over the course of a couple of months and then stopped. However, I started having mid-cycle bleeding instead. At first it was just spotting, then light bleeding without other symptoms. More recently it has become like a full-blown period with pretty bad PMS symptoms leading up to it for several days before the bleeding starts. I'm noticing bloating, cramps, fatigue and mood swings during that week or so. I still have no bleeding or symptoms during the inactive pills. I have read online that a lot of people have similar issues. The low estrogen level in the pills is apparently too low for some people's bodies, and they have breakthrough bleeding. I am considering changing BCP. I loved the Lo Loestrin at first, especially when I had no periods at all, but it has gotten progressively less pleasant. And I can't predict exactly when the bleeding will start mid-cycle, so it's a little like being 13 again -- waiting around wearing pads all the time, just in case.
Also, I have taken several pregnancy tests since being on the Lo Loestrin. I know the chance of being pregnant is extremely small, but it can be unnerving not to have a period at all. Now that I have basically a full blown period in the MIDDLE of my cycle, I generally take that as a sign that I am not pg.
