what say ye? Veiled threat or no?

The controversial Facebook post. (Source: Facebook)

NASHVILLE - A candidate who?s seeking to represent Nashville in Congress posted a photo of his gun and a pointed message for President Barack Obama on his campaign Facebook page.

Brad Staats, the Republican nominee challenging U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper in the 5th Congressional District election, posted the picture of the silver and black Colt 911 semi-automatic pistol on Friday. Under it he wrote:

?Many people in Tennessee keep asking me about my opinion on Second Amendment rights. Apparently Tennesseans are part of that crazy crowd that Obama says ?cling to (their) religion and guns.? Well, then I must be part of that crazy crowd. Here is something that I usually have with me. Welcome to Tennessee Mr. Obama.?

Re: what say ye? Veiled threat or no?

  • Probably wasn't the smartest move to include the "Welcome to Tennessee Mr. Obama."

  • I highly doubt that it was a legitimate threat.  But he was clearly trying to be sassy/intimidating.  He seems like the same kind of idiot that would make a bomb joke to a TSA agent.  What happened to common sense?

  • I doubt he meant it to be a threat, at least not a threat to use the gun on Obama, more like a threat that Obama is coming to a state where people disagree with him and won't in fact be welcomed. Whatever he meant, it's dumb. I hate people posting pictures of their guns on social media, it's a huge pet peeve of mine.
