If you had to choose?

If you had to choose just one cause to champion/rally around, what would it be?  It doesn't have to be a politcal cause.  What would you choose to support with all your financial and physical means?

Re: If you had to choose?

  • I would pick Remote Area Medical.

The Remote Area Medical Volunteer Corps is a non-profit, volunteer, airborne relief corps dedicated to serving mankind by providing free health care, dental care, eye care, veterinary services, and technical and educational assistance to people in remote areas of the United States and the world.

You may have seen them featured on 20/20 and Dateline.  They do such amazing work for those in need.

  • The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (well I already do support them with all I can).  My DD has Type 2 diabetes and I pray they discover a cure in her lifetime.

  • I would choose homelessness.  It's such a travesty in this country of great wealth that we have people literally starving and sleeping on the streets.

  • Putting an end to female circumcision.

Yeah I know, never happen. But I would

    spend it all to try.

  • Domestic violence.  My mother was killed by my father and it is very near and dear to my heart.

I can imagine so. So very sorry.

  • Adoption....more specifically adoption from foster care, there are farrr too many children growing up without a permenent family (in a country where people spend tons of $$$$$ on infertility treatments - not to offend anyone who is, but theres sooo many kids who need homes!) , and far too many people who assume adoption is just for babies or kids in other countries. Kids who age out of foster care are more likely to be homeless, in prisons, in drugs and/or prostition...the numbers go wayyy down for kids/teenagers who have been adopted and have a family who loves and supports them after they turn 18.
  • This is a hard question.  I think if I had to choose, I would choose Alzheimer's research.  It's just a terrible disease that robs you of your memories and then your ability to live a normal happy life.  It's so difficult on the patient's family too, to have someone you've known and loved forget who you are is so painful.  My grandfather and DH's grandmother both had Alzheimer's and got so much worse before they passed away. It was so difficult for our parents to not be recognized by their own parents.  It's definitely a cause dear to our hearts.

  • I second adoption. Both private and foster. I think a lot can be done to improve the system in terms of time and the financial cost.

It took my mother 9 years to adopt 2 kids. All children deserve a loving home.

omg...i'm so sorry.  Domestic violence is a passion of mine as well and you don't have to be hit and have bruises for it to be considered abuse.  All forms: verbal, mental, physical are so very wrong.  I've had experience with this unfortunately

I feel so terrible for anyone who has to experience this.  This is a great cause to champion. I am very sorry for your loss.

Does anyone have a specific organization they donate to or volunteer for that helps victims of domestic violence?  I haven't been involved with one yet and I'm thinking it's something I'd like to do.

I don't want to open this up again.  I deleted my comments, which were my personal experience.

My personal cause would be organ donation.
