Wall color help!

We are remodeling our kitchen, and I'm having a hard time deciding on a color.  The cabinets will be painted black, concrete countertops, wood flooring (maybe an oak).  The backsplash isn't decided yet, but we're thinking of galvanized sheet metal.  So, we need a color to soften the feel of the room.  The other issue is that one of our kitchen walls flows into the living room, so we'd have to really like the color a lot.

I'd really like to go with a vibrant color (like a yellow/green), but I'm scared that it would be too much.  Oh, and we have black leather furniture in our living room, so it would go with any color we chose.

Any ideas on colors and/or ways to soften the appearance of the space?

  • It obviously depends on your taste but so far I LOVE the black cabinets and concrete counter tops, very modern and industrial. I would say depending on your style either

    A) If you're brave and it would match the decor of the living room go with something fun and funky.

    B) If you want to play it safe/neutral so you may not hate it in a few years go with a soft color like light tan, light blue, or light green.

    C) Pick a color that you already have in your living room. Any color should do because black and grey can both match anything. ;)

    P.S

IDK about the steel because it may be a lot of grey between that and the countertops..

    Good luck !

This. Our kitchen is brown-ish, our downstairs kitchen is BRIGHT yellow with darker countertops, black appliances.

I wouldnt do the steel either...to much dark and cold. What about a white or colorful tile for the backsplash to bring color in and then keeping the walls nuetral?

Like the tiles at the bottem of here: http://www.houzz.com/photos/43714/San-Carlos-Residence-Two-contemporary-kitchen-san-francisco

  • I've got an apple green kitchen with black marble countertops, maple cabinetry, oak floors and stainless appliances.  I love it.  If you like bright yellow green and your husband is all for it, go for it.
  • Love the industrial modern sound of your decor.  I would definitely go with something bright.  Lime green, aqua, or even fuschia would look fantastic!
