Disney NOT on a budget

If money were no option, what would you do at Disneyworld?  Where would you stay?  After nixing a Disney vacay this year, we decided we will likely go in the spring.  Not that money is not a barrier to anything, but I'd like to splurge on a thing or two (since it's right after bonus time for DH).  I used to live in Florida, so when I went to Disney I never stayed at any of the resorts, etc.  I just left from home, went for the day, and came back home (kinda like a Kennywood trip).  Now, though, I'd like to treat my boys to something cool...on DH's dime.  ;)

Re: Disney NOT on a budget

  • We loved Animal Kingdom Lodge in at Kilimanjaro Club Level with Concierge Service - Standard Room.

I highly recommend the Concierge Level, it was amazing. We had access to breakfast, mid-afternoon snacks and a wine and appetizer buffet every night. The Concierge was amazing and made all of our dinner arrangements and activity arrangements. We went in July and made no reservations before we went and we ate at fantastic restaurant every night and even went to Circus du Soleil. And the Savannah view was amazing, we sat on our balcony and watched the animals in the Savannah, it was so cool

I am sure Sarah will chime in on this, she is a plethora of Disney knowledge.

  • I think we're going in the spring too!  We're planning on staying at the new Art of Animation resort.  It's actually one of the value resorts (but not as cheap since it's brand new), but the pictures make it look like so much fun for a kid.  I'd love to hear from some of those that have been if the other resorts are as kid centric.

Our splurges will likely be Princess centered (bippity boppity boutique, anyone) since this is "Brinley's" trip and we'll take one in a few years for Nolan to enjoy more.

When I went as a kid we never stayed on the disney property.

  • If money were no object? Concierge at teh Polynesian no question. If that's a little too expensive, Beach or Yacht Club for the pool and walking distance to the parks.

  • Beach club!

We are planning for fall 2013 and want to stay at the Art of Animation!  The grandparents are on board to join us (yay!), they've been sent prices for the trip and other details, but I need to wait for my dad to firm up his work schedule for next year (he is a retail manager, so fall is a busy time for him with back to school and then the holidays after that).  He's hoping to make early November work, but he needs to double check.  Once he does that, I can't wait to make it official!! :)

  • I've stayed @ the Beach and Yacht club a few times for work. The pools are very nice! The Yacht side seems quieter (it's connected to the convention center, so I think they get more of a buisness crowd).
  • Without kids maybe Grand Floridian or Animal Kingdom? I stayed at GF for work once and it was gorgeous. I think AK would be fun with kids but I would want to be closer to MK with kids.

with kids if money were no object I'd stay at the secret room at Cinderella's castle, haha! And have a personal guide in MK so you dont have to wait in lines!!

More realistically I'd stay somewhere you could walk to MK. I'm not super familiar with the hotels that close so I don't know. I'd definitely do character dinners which we did. IDK if I'd do the bibbidy bobbidy boutique or not. Dh really hated the look and honestly I was not a fan of most of them although for the experience itself it could be worth it. We did a Cinderella dinner at GF but I think doing it at the castle would be a fun experience. Money wasn't the issue for that...you just have to book it far in advance and as soon as its available.

  • grrr not sure why it did that.

After going just over a month ago.... I would DEF stay somewhere you could walk or take a boat to MK. We stayed at Port Orleans Riverside. Great resort but lots to be said to just walk or take the monorail to a park. Dh and I both said when we would go back we would shell out the extra $$ to be close. But for now I have no desire to go back. :P I might be unamerican for saying that. ha.

i feel the same way on all accounts! Monorail or walk is certainly worth it. I liked where we stayed but it was a pain in the butt getting around (ft wilderness campground).

and I agree...I have no desire to go back for awhile. It was fun and magical for dd with meeting all the princesses. But I was disappointed with how much there is to do there. I wish there were more and better rides. I do think the new fantasy land looks like it will be great and I wish they had that when we were there. I could see maybe going one more time when dd is older but it's not on the top of my list.

So glad to hear I am not the only one. DH called me Disney Downer. Don't get me wrong it was neat and the service and food were great. It was just too much work. Even with going in with notion that we see what we see since DD was young, And not sure if the heat played a part too. Maybe I will change my mind in a few years. :P
