I *think* there are a few of you, but I could be wrong... I'm going to pack my hospital bag & baby's bag this weekend (yup, I *still* haven't done this!!!) and I was wondering what you took and were really glad you had vs. what you took and didn't even take out of the bag. I'm trying to keep it to a minimum. So far I have:
*toiletries
*a cotton robe
*slippers
*2 pairs of socks w/ rubber things on the bottom
*1 pajama top for nursing, has buttons. I also have a nursing tank I could take. ?
*camera
?
What else? Also, did they send you home with lots of samples of things? I have a whole other list of postpartum supplies ?that I was going to pink up this weekend as well :?
*witch hazel (and maybe tucks.. I dunno)
*dermoplat
*colace
*pads (ahhh... fun times and memories of middle school!)
*cottonelle wipes
*lanolin ointment (for BFing)?
Re: Anyone give birth at North Central Baptist?
I had a c-section at NE Baptist but I would recommend you consider taking your own towels. ?Hospital towels are ucky. ?I also took my own pillow, as I knew I would be more comfortable. ? Also, don't forget your cell phone and a boppy, if you have one.
?
You are going to LOVE NE Baptist. The nurses are so nice and the accomodations are wonderful. After you give birth, they give you a shoulder massage. You and your husband also get a "romantic" dinner for two. It wasn't Ruths Chris, but it was good for hospital food. And the food in general is pretty good to.
I would definitely bring a pillow, and yes, the boppy. I think a blanket from home would have been nice. Oh, and you might want to bring a DVD to watch. I was in labor for 16 hours and it got pretty boring. Also, bring a blanket for the baby. They provide blankets for them while they are there, but they don't let you take them (although the nurse did give us one.) Don't forget your carseat, and something big for you to wear. I would pack something from your 7th or 8th month. I packed a shirt from my 6th month and it was really tight.
They give you an HEB bag full of all sorts of samples. And everything in the baby cart is yours to keep with the exeption of the baby shirts and blankets. So load up!!!
Best of luck!
Oh, and they do give you a ton of pads for yourself. And humungous mesh panties. I would go through those before I bought any additional pads. It took me weeks to go through what they gave me. They also give you a wash bottle to help you keep clean "down there."
Buy yourself a stool softener, but resist the urge to buy a laxitive. My mother gave me a combination stool softener plus laxitive. While it helped the first time going, I almost didn't make it to the bathroom!
Don't bring anything from the bottom of your list... they will have everything you listed. Have extra witch hazel pads at home since you will inevitably run out. Target brand are great and 1/3 the price.
They give you 2 cans of demaplast... which is plenty.
Bring:
-Yoga pants and nursing tank (you will want out of the gowns by day two)... makes walking around so much easier!
-Gown PJs. I loathed the tie back robe thing for post partum.
-Old Navy skirt if you have one. This is FABULOUS for putting on under your tie back gown when walking around while in labor. It totally hides all parts that need hidden. If you have this, you won't need a robe. I didn't even take mine out of the bag.
-DVDs... you get really bored in there when your husband runs out to get food and your baby has to be in the nursery for tests.
-Camera
-Hair ties
-Baby album page where they put their foot prints
-toiletries
-chapstick
-mints...very important!
-clothes to leave hospital
-NB sized baby outfit
Everything else is generally a waste of time, money and space. Trust me... I brought WAY too much
Tip: since I haven't used pads since jr high, I went through a bunch of kinds before I found a kind I liked. They are Always Infinity. I also bought the little wipe things, I found them to be useful.
Oh yeah,
-pillows and blanket for your husband
-extra pillow for you
Yes, the stretchy fold over waist one that they sold over the summer that most pregnant ladies swore by.
Mints are super important because you can't drink water (only ice chips), and with the hard pushing breathing you do... you do not feel minty fresh after hours of labor (and in my case...four hours of pushing) and there are a lot of people within super close proximity to you.
