One good thing about working 4-10's...
Is the fact that during Thanksgiving week I only work 2 days and I have a 5 day weekend!
(Sorry for the random post, but I'm bored and don't feel like working today)
Siggy coming soon....
Re: One good thing about working 4-10's...
I used to work 7 on/off 12 hour shifts, and I hated that! Everyone thought it sounded so great since you got 7 days off, but you have to take a few days to recover! I never felt like I ever got the full 7 off. I guess the grass is always greener!
Now I work M-F 7:30-4, no weekends/holidays. I also knew a girl that worked 4 10's and loved it, and another who worked 3 12's and loved it. To each their own I guess!
Yeah I guess it depends on your personal preference. But you worked 7 12 hour shifts in a row??? I wouldn't like that. I used to work 3-11 7on/7off and even that was hard!
Don't you work in a hospital? What is it you do if you don't mind me asking?
I work in the lab...I'm a Medical Technologist. I used to work on the bench in Microbiology and Blood Bank, but now I work with the computer system as a LIS (laboratory information systems) specialist. I took the computer job for the better hours...it seemed DH and I never had time together but every other week before.
I would definitely go back to the bench if I could get a day shift Micro job, but there isn't much possibility of that coming open anytime soon.
Oh cool! I'm thinking about going back to school to be either a Radiology Tech or a Sonar Tech, I'm not sure which one I'd rather do. I have thought about getting either a Lab Tech or a Med Tech degree, which I haven't completely written it off. Is it a hard program to go through? I just want to be prepared because I'm planning on going back to school in 2 years after DH graduates. I have had 2 failed attempts in nursing school and I want to make sure I know what I'm getting myself into.
It wasn't easy at Auburn, I'm not sure about any other program. I thought it was going to be a breeze when I first declared it my major, but that wasn't the case. If you are going to go that route, I would definitely suggest the Med Tech degree with the internship. I graduated from Auburn in 05 with the Lab Tech degree and again in 06 with Med Tech after my year internship. The ONLY thing that stinks about this is the pay...but hopefully in a few years when people retire that will go up.
I might would check into Rad or Ultrasound too, I know Ultrasound techs make more than I do. Ultrasound would be the only other thing healthcare-wise that I would want to do. If you have any questions about the Lab/Med Tech programs I would be happy to try and answer them.
I'll probably be going to UAB, if I don't go to a junior college that is. I have been thinking about Radiology and Ultrasound for awhile. I thought about doing Lab or Med Tech briefly because I like to keep my options open. But I'm starting to lean more toward Ultrasound....but we'll see. Thanks for your help!
