Predictions for VP debate?
Anyone want to venture any predictions as to what's going to go down? I just don't know because Biden can be such a loose cannon, and I really don't know too much about Ryan besides his politics (which I disagree with) and the fact that some people find him attractive (which I also disagree with, ha!).
I think Ryan will probably end up coming out ahead, as much as it pains me to say. I'm guessing he's going to appear so much more youthful and composed than Biden which will give him an edge.
Tell me what you think!
Re: Predictions for VP debate?
I will agree with you on Ryan being attractive. I mean, it's not so much that he ugly...but the man is probably the least photogenic person I have ever seen. He is always making such strange faces it seems like.
I'm excited for the debate though.
I think that if Biden can stick it to Ryan on his unpopular views on social issues (gay marriage, no abortions/no exceptions) and his unpopular budget, then Biden could come out ahead. Biden has trouble not looking like a know-it-all asshoIe though, so I'm not sure how that will play into things.
As Seth Myers said this weekend, "Is there anything more exciting than Joe Biden thinking it's up to him to get the lead back?"

VP debates traditionally don't have a big effect. Bentsen stuck it to Quayle, and George H.W. Bush ended up winning in a landslide.
Paul Ryan is very knowledgeable. I think the greater peril is for Joe Biden---that he seems like too much of an attack dog or too lacking in specifics.
I see the Romney bounce continuing at least through the second presidential debate. The debate performance gives a perception that he's a winner, that he has Obama on the run, and that feeds on itself and energizes the base. There's now a sense that Romney could actually win, which was not felt since Ryan was picked.
It's probably still easier for Obama to win because he only needs one or two states to fall into place for him. Romney's easiest route is Virginia, Florida, Ohio, and then one other state. Ohio's the worry. (If Ohio goes to Obama, though, Romney could still win with Colorado and Wisconsin, etc.)
A customer of mine said Ryan looks like Eddie Munster
all grown up.
That's all I got right now.
Bwahahahaha I loved this quote. Weekend Update is awesome.
my read shelf:
It's about who is polite and who isn't....right?
Oh yeah, what about the Libya trial today?
It's about asking for more security and an ambassador being drug through the streets and sexually abused multiple times up the back side prior to dying for our country after multiple pleas for more security which, went unnoticed by our president.
I won't speculate what he was doing but, it wasn't looking out for our country or protecting the people who were trying to.
I don't think Ryan is ugly. Not handsome, but not ugly. I'm painfully tired of the P90X references.
I think Ryan is going to be "introduced" to the majority of America tonight, and I'm sad that this is the ONLY debate we see him in. It's probably his only chance to have a lot of casual voters "get to know him".
Biden is just fun/funny to watch. He is very experienced in debate and I don't underestimate him one bit, but he cracks me up with how nonchalant he is even after all the gaffes he has made.
Yes.
I bet that it's going to be pretty tame. They'll both be a bit on the "attack" it will be "attacking" 3rd parties (the Presidential candidates), that automatically keeps things less heated. Even being from Wisconsin I haven't seen Ryan speak a lot, but it seems like his ideas are more extreme than his manner. Biden is Biden - his gaffes are usually at speaking events, not debates. All in all, I think it will be your typical debate dance, mostly talking around each other. I hope I eat my words
This is my favorite image right now:
he is a heck of a lot better looking than pelosi and hilary. not saying i'm attracted to him or anything, but i don't think he is ugly
I think it's weird that you're turning level of attractiveness into a partisan issue. Don't you think that there are politicians of both parties that are hot/not hot?
And to be fair, Nancy Pelosi and Hilary Clinton are 20 and 30 years older than Paul Ryan. Come back when he's geriatric.
i'm sure there are, those were the only ones that came to mind first
Paul Ryan isn't bad looking but certainly not hot. There is something handsome about him (but something a little goofy - can't quite pinpoint it).
He has a nice body.
I think Ryan and Biden will both be feisty. Biden smirks a lot so Ryan may end up with the edge.
This debate is going to have a lot of impact on Paul Ryan's future political career, and very little impact otherwise. There is going to be a lot of canned material and indirect attacks on Obama and Romney. Ryan will either establish himself as a true future superstar of the Republican party, or could come across as an overhyped empty suit.
Biden has very little to lose in this debate: He's not a legitimate contender for 2016 and this very well may be his final political campaign, ever. The downside of course is with a guy like Biden, if he really has nothing to lose, who knows what he might say. But controversial statements get media time, and the right attack on Romney could echo through the media and make a legitimate impact on the election.
The biggest challenge facing Ryan is juggling defending his past budget plans with the official Romney ticket line. It's always a challenge for the VP when their personal positions have mild conflicts with the person running for Prez. I think he'll do ok in that regard.
So yeah, for me the two big things to watch for are 1) Can Biden come up with a pre-planned line on Romney that is catchy enough to get serious media attention and 2) Can Paul Ryan prove he is a legitimate force in the Republican Party for the future?
Dude, Hillary was a hottie in her prime. Pelosi was ok, but her plastic surgery hasn't done her a lot of favors. Heck, even Biden was a lot better looking in his youth. Time just isn't fair.
and men usually age better than women. Hillary sure has gained a lot of weight
for all you guys that think he is ugly LOL

I've followed Ryan for years and think that he is very handsome. I saw him in person at a rally in our area, and it was magnified. I enjoyed his book, too, and like his expertise on fiscal issues. He's one of the most knowledgeable people out there.
I think Ryan will do very well, but a media that's hungry for a comeback story may give Biden a win if it's close.
I agree with pretty much all of this.
I also love how this thread turned into a debate on the hotness of various politicians.
...But for the record, as sleezy as Bill Clinton can be, I would probably have hit that if I was of age a few decades ago.
