Looking for opinions on IUDs
I understand the basic differences between the 2 IUDs, effective years, hormone vs non-hormone, etc. but I was curious about opinions, side-effects (weight gain, pain, headaches, how long you still had a period, etc) from those who have tried one or the other (or both).
I'm currently on the pill and have been for about 10 years however my FI and I have been discussing going this route instead so I don't need to worry about taking a pill every day (like most people I will forget on occasion).
I appreciate any input and opinions out there! Thanks!
Re: Paraguard vs Mirena
Thanks for the response!
Did you notice any changes in sex drive, appetite, etc.
I've had the paragard for 4yrs.
The only side effects I have are heavy periods ( day 1 light days 2 and 3 go through super plus tampon in 4 hrs day 4 normal day 5 light) and bad cramps for a day. Although, some months I only get little twingy cramps instead of bad cramps and some months none at all.
All in all, the worst of it is heavy periods. Which, is what every woman I know who has it complains about.

I have Paragard and went that route due to how my body felt on hormones (worsening migraines, mood swings, etc) and family history of factor 5 (a clotting disorder).
I have had an increase in how heavy my periods are, but I went from a very light, 1-3 day period with the pill to a 6 day period that was heavy the first couple months and now is more "normal" (how it was before I was ever on any BC). Along with the first couple months having heavier periods, I also had more cramping those months. The more recent months, I've had extremely MINIMAL cramping, average bleeding, and my headaches are almost non-existent which is a lovely change from my horrible migraines before. Not to mention, I'm not constantly freaked out about getting a blood clot.
I'm on my 4th year of Mirena. I love it! Getting it put it was minimal pain and I just had some light cramping afterwards. I was looking forward to no periods but I still get my period regularly every month but they are much lighter than before. I can wear a pantyliner the whole time.
I didn't gain weight and my appetite didn't change. I never had headaches before and don't have them now. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone! I love not having to worry about taking a pill or changing my birth control monthly. I plan on getting another one put in next year and not keeping it the whole time bc we will be TTC within the next 3 yrs. It's really nice that as soon as it's taken out you can TTC that same day. I have no complaints, it's the best especially with a .1% chance of getting pregnant on it.
I have Mirena and I love it.
Family history of blood clotting, extremely heavy, painful periods, and extreme migraines connected to my cycle.
I am on my second Mirena and I'll keep them until I'm spayed or we decide to have a baby.
No change in weight, diet, attitude, sex drive, or anything.

I have paraguard and love it. I have had it for 1.5 yrs.
No real side effects. No heavy periods. Periods comparable to the periods I had before BC in length and flow.
Totally recommend it.
My biggest complaint with paraguard i that after I got it I spotted on and off the entire month after I got it until I got my next period, so I had to wear a panty liner every day and that was annoying.
