Thanksgiving is getting close!!

What's everyone doing for TGD?  Will you be home or traveling?

What foods would it just NOT be Thanksgiving without?

My son has requested Turkey, corn casserole and wild rice casserole, I just wrote to Lauren for her requests. I'm planning our menu... it's not that far away ladies!

Re: Thanksgiving is getting close!!

  • Yay!  I love Turkey Day! :)

We'll be going to my parents' for TG. Most of my mom's side of the family will be coming over and I always look forward to that as I only see them but a few times a year.

It's definitely not thanksgiving without the turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, and my aunt's sweet potato casserole with marshmallows on top (and it HAS to have marshmallows) and my mom's pecan pie!

OK, my mouth is now watering at the goodness that is Turkey Day food. :)

    Siggy coming soon....
  • We travel.  We will be at DH's aunt's house for lunch.  Not sure about dinner yet.  It will either be with my family or dh's grandmother.  My family doesn't eat turkey, and we see each other often, so we're usually okay without it.

DH's aunt makes a hashbrown casserole like Cracker Barrel.  It is so good.

  • Aahh, I'm so excited!  We don't have our final plans nailed down, but I *think* we are going to try to host it.  (Most of the guests would be OOT, so I'm not 100% sure we're doing that yet).

It would not be Thanksgiving without dressing, macaroni and cheese (weird I know), and sweet potato casserole.

My mom has requested the dark chocolate cake that I just posted in my blog yesterday. :)  Other than that, I'm not sure what I'm making.  She usually does a majority of the cooking, so we'll have to split it this year!

I know it's not really a "thanksgiving food," but I just love homemade mac and cheese! :)

i love it too!!!! yum....the crispy top...the warm gooey center... yuuuum!!!!

  • We're visiting my family for TG this year.  It wouldn't be TG without turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, and sweet potato casserole.  I put in a request to my aunt to make pralines and bourbon balls for me since we won't be with them for Christmas this year.  I'm planning my menu too!
  • 20 days until Thanksgiving!! :-D
  • We will be spending it w/ my family this year....It wouldnt be Thanksgiving w/out the turkey and dressing! My grandmother also always makes waldorf salad for me--yum!

Jane/Lauren---what all is in the wild rice cass? It sounds yummy!!!

  • I have to work Thanksgiving day but the day after we are going to my grandmother's house.  It would not be thanksgiving without sweet potato casserole, broccoli salad, and pecan pie!!!  yummy!!!!!

  • We'll be going up to my FI's family in North Alabama for Thanksgiving this year.  I'm not totally excited about it - I always have a hard time up there because they make weird food (to me), and it just doesn't feel like a holiday.

I'm going to request that his mom make Chicken N Dumplins - she makes them soooooo good.

Like do they make weird food because it's just his family or do you think that all North Alabama people make weird food?  Wink  What kind of food do they serve?

I'm going to my family...DH will be working so he doesn't get to celebrate Thanksgiving this year Crying  It wouldn't be Thanksgiving without turkey and dressing, fruit salad, and sweet potato pie...oh and my aunt's homemade noodles...totally delish!

  • We are having to go to my Mom's for lunch.....and his GP's for dinner!  His family are not the best cooks in the world (I am being really generous with that statement)...so I always cook some homemade mac & cheese and corn casserole to take with us to his GP's house.  That way at least DH and I have 2 sides that we can eat with our turkey :P

My mom is a true southern cook.  We always have waaaayyyy more food than we could ever eat....but it makes for good leftovers!  We usually have fried turkey....chicken and dressing....mac & cheese...corn casserole...and some other veggies!  She also makes some homemade yeast rolls that are to die for :)  Bring on the gluttony :P

  • We go to my MIL's house in FL every year. And my MIL is great, so it's always fun :) We're both excited because we need the break from work and school.

DH and his mom have traditions of cooking certain things his grandmother used to make, and we all help. It wouldn't be Thanksgiving without turkey, dressing or stuffing, and corn casserole :)

Sounds like my mom, and yes, the gluttony cometh, lol. We'll be at her house for Thanksgiving.

We usually have an enormous and ridiculous spread. Turkey, dressing, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes (my grandmas kind that has mayo and sour cream in it... omg... delicious), green bean and corn casserole, a few other random casseroles always appear, deviled eggs, fruit salad, pecan pie, banana pudding, omggg... the list goes on. All my family brings deliciousnes... LOL... yummm!!! I can't wait.

  • I can't wait! We will be going to Dothan. At this point, our meals will be at noon and 3. Yeah...that's right...3 hours apart. We have decided to eat small at both meals...I can't wait for my grandmother's mac and cheese...and dressing and gravy...green bean casserole...and fruit salad...I need to mention that to make sure she makes it...
  • I forgot sweet potato casserole... omg. My mom makes it with this gooey pecan topping. I've tried the kind with marshmallows and I'm not a big fan. Come to think of it, I mainly just eat the topping off because I am not a huge fan of sweet potatoes anyway, lol.
