Undecided: Foreign Policy edition
The election is merely weeks away. I'm an undecided independent with socially liberal views and conservative in regards to defense/foreign policy. I've weighted my top issues to decide which means more to my vote.
Sell me on Romney's foreign policy.
Sell me on Obama's as well.
Ground rules- I'm in a swing state full of negative ads. Stick to selling your candidate. I'm not interested in the bashing of their opponent.
Re: Undecided: Foreign Policy edition
Where do I start. Romney is against Gay Marriage, Immigration Reform, and Abortion. I am a Christian mother and I have never had an abortion nor would I ever get one, but why is it the governments place to say a woman shouldn't have one ? They don't know us or what we have been through. FFS anyone who says life begins at conception is a load of crap. It's a cell. Please.
Edit: I don't know much about foreign policy, sorry.
I agree. However, I'm specifically looking for foreign policy and defense policy. Social issues are clear cut here.
Obama's defense policy is to ignore and hang out with stars instead of communicate with other foreign leaders.
Mr. Obama and Hillary Clinton outright LIED to us in a massive attempted coverup of their incompetence, neglect of human assets, and reckless and STUPID foreign policy. He sent his operatives, Jay Carney, Susan Rice and others out in public to deliberately mislead us.
The ambassador was not protected. He asked for help and was denied! That pretty much sums up Obama.
Fooking A. Does no one follow directions? I am not interested in attacking the other candidate's policy. I am interested in what your side has to offer.
Let me rephrase this.
Instead of slinging mud at the other candidate, please tell me where your POTUS choice stands in terms of foreign policy.
Repeat, I am not looking for "the opposition sucks because he xyz." I am looking for "My candidate believes we should..."
Bin Laden is dead.
The world likes us again.
Our military is still ginormous compared to the next closest, who are our close allies.
This was supposed to be under the quote from cats:
Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
REPORTED! How old are you?
for what?
picking on me, as usual
My take:
Obama: wants to weaken our defense, just talk to the enemy, lie about what has happened in Libya (so how will we know what is really happening) , seems to be embarrassed to be an american and apologizes a lot.
He does not seem to think we should be worried about Iran getting nuclear weapons.
He does not show strong support for Israel.
He seems to think we can just explain things to the terrorists and all will be fine.
Romney: Wants a strong defense to discourage people from attacking us. Wants us protected from a position of strength.
Does not want to wait until Iran already has the bomb to act. He has said this does not mean sending troops in.
Supports Israel as our ally.
Seriously? Hmmm.
In that case, I feel harassed by all your !!!!!!!!!!!'s.
thank you for actually answering my question.
What color is the sky on your planet? Seriously.
Please give me ONE concrete example of Obama apologizing. Read the actual statement before the Libya attack, it was not an apology at all.
Please give me ONE concrete example of how Mitt and Obama's plans on Iran differ. Paul Ryan couldn't last night, and the moderator seriously nailed him on it. Neither man has ruled out an intervention, but both view it as a last resort. The only real difference I see is Obama would prefer UN support while Romney is more willing to act alone.
Please give me ONE concrete example of how Mitt and Obama's positions on Israel actually differ. Actually, please explain to me Mitt's position on Israel. Apparently he supports them, but also supports the two-state solution, which the current Israeli government opposes. I am genuinely confused what Romney actually believes on Israel. Obama has continued the policies of GW Bush on Israel, the exact same policies Romney would likely follow. There's no discernible difference.
You are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts.
I don't know if she followed instructions, almost every single Obama point was a veiled dig. I thought the rules were to sell not go negative?
Eta: never mind, luckydad is on the case.
i know. I was attempting to start a constructive convo but I've determined that can't be done on thus board (by most.).
And I still have no idea what real and quantitative things R&R will do with foreign/defense.
Honestly, I have a real fear that they would be like the Bush administration. From what I've read it sounds like they would go in at the first whisper of WMD. I haven't seen anything that gives me any indication it would be different than before but maybe someone here can provide info that proves otherwise.
So far Romney has not done a very good job showing he has any good plans or ideas for foreign policy. Wherever he has visited in the last year he has made enemies by saying politically incorrect things (criticizing the mayor of London about the Olympics, comparing the Israeli and Palestine economies and concluding Israel's is superior, etc). Also, the talk from R&R about Iran scares me. Do they want to start another war? Obama and his advisors have determined that while Iran is working on enriching uranium there is no way they are ready to put it in a weapon. The approach they are taking (sanctions and working with other countries in the world to isolate Iran) helps to stunt Iran's growth.
