Lighting in smaller bahtrooms

What types and color of lights should be used in smaller bathrooms to make it look bigger, I read white lights give and illusion of larger spaces but I am not too fond of it. So what should be used. Any suggestions.

Re: Lighting in smaller bahtrooms

  • I am not sure I am following you.  Are you asking about the light itself or the light fixture?  As far as the light bulb itself you want to stay with white (not going to be any brighter than that)  With light fixtures I would go with a chrome or silver finish to get the most reflection.  Also, add a larger mirror.  It's going to reflect the light and make the room appear larger.
  • yes, you can try to add a big mirror in your bathroom . it's more effective to choose a light
A girl can never have too many shoes
  • We recenlty renovated 2 small bathrooms (full bath and pwder room). In the full bath we used brighter lights because we use that room to get ready (makeup, shaving etc).

We used softer light in the powder room because usually people are only using that room for going to bathroom, not getting ready in the morning.

    See link for photos.

  • Hey Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I think white lights are the brightest so will suit best if I want the bathroom to look bigger. Also the idea of having some stylish mirror along with a contemporary compact vanity will give the perfect finish to the bathroom without making it look small or cluttered.
  • I don't understand why anyone would not put white lights in the bathroom! Besides making it bigger....have you ever done your makeup in a bathroom with yellow lights and then been at a restaurante and gone to the washroom and looked in the mirror and gone, "dang I thought I looked better then that"...thats because yellow or 'warm white', lights make your makeup look like a different color then it actually is. Cool white lights are the only color lights I would ever consider putting in a bathroom.
