Foot Doc. Appointment

I've been having feet issues my entire life, but in the past year it seems to have gotten worse so I made an appointment to see a foot doctor for last night.

I found out that I have very high arches (which I knew before) but I didn't know that it would cause all of the pain that I'm having...and it won't ever get better, only worse unless I start taking better care of my feet now. The doc still thinks that when I'm older, the fat that is in the balls of my feet will deteriorate leaving me in a lot of pain....I also have slight planters fasciitis.

I now have to have pads added to all of my every day shoes (I have to bring them in to get placed in the shoes) I have new insoles for all of my shoes, I have to stretch out my feet 3 times a day, and freeze waterbottles and rub/roll my feet over them for 15 minutes every day.

I also had to buy new sneakers to wear when I get home from work, because she told me not to walk around barefoot, even at home. I need to be in these sneakers whenever I'm not wearing any of my other shoes (boots, heels etc.) The doc recommended New Balance sneakers, so I went to the store on my way home last night and found a really great pair!

So I guess it was a good appointment. They took x-rays and everything looked fine, no huge issues, and if I do all of the things she said, my feet should start to feel a whole lot better!

Re: Foot Doc. Appointment

  • Wow that is really crazy. Yay for new shoes but sucks for the reason why. I also have high arches in my feet and it's really hard to find a pair of comfy heels. Hopefully you can find a little bit of relief in all of these things. But I think I would have told them no to not walking around my house barefooted. I LOVE shoes but at home I want to be comfy.

Let us know if it works and you start feeling better!

  • My DH also has Planters Fascitis and he has the same problems that you are talking about.  He wear's these insoles in every pair of shoes he owns.  I'm sorry, I can't remember the name of them as they make them for both men and women.  He has said they are the only thing that has helped his poor feet.  He is on them all day for about 10-11 hours at work and then at home, so he definately can feel your pain.  I know he even has these insoles in his slippers at home.  He HATES rolling the frozen water bottle.  He whines like a little 2yo at that one a few times!
  • Glad to hear they were able to figure out your problem!  I feel your pain, I've had surgery on both feet to correct a bunion problem...no weight at all for 8 weeks on each one, then in a walking boot for another 6 weeks for each one (had them done separately).  After all that money/recovery time, I have no problem investing in nice pairs of shoes =]

I assume that you have naturally high arches, and the shoes you have been wearing haven't been cutting it with the arch support?  I now have to wear custom orthotic inserts, too.  Although my Dansko clogs have enough arch support for me to go without when I wear them.  Once you have feet problems, you never underestimate the value of a nice (IE, usually expensive!) pair of shoes!  I always had a problem in the summer because I wouldn't want to wear sneakers or clogs with shorts, but then I couldn't walk real long in regular "summer" shoes...I bought a pair of Dansko sandals, and they are fabulous - have nice arch support, and it is certainly difficult/impossible to wear inserts with sandals.  Just a thought!

I do have naturally high arches, and I knew that I did, but I didn't realize that it would be an issue before now so I'm really glad I got checked out!

I'm dreading summer shoe shopping now...I'm a Reef flip flop-aholic and I also love being barefoot in the summer so I'm a little bummed. I'll look into the Dansko sandals, thanks for the suggestion :)

  • The Walking Company tends to carry shoes that are good for your feet =]  Luckily not all "good" shoes have to be ugly anymore!

These are the sandals I have, but in white patent...super comfortable!  I cringe when I go someplace like the state fair, with a lot of walking, and see people walking around in $2 flip flops (mainly because I can't wear them for very long without my feet "bottoming out", since I'm used to arch support now.  I've worn them pretty much nonstop for 2 summers now and they still look great.  I think they are discontinued now, but they have a lot of really similar styles available.

Thanksk for the links!! I saw a few cute sandals on there that is making me feel a lot less depressed about loosing my flip flops and crumby other sandals!

I'm going to add some to my Christmas list since they're a bit pricey! :)
