Drying dishes question...

This is really random, but where do you put hand washed dishes to dry? Dish drying rack? Some kind of mat? We used to just keep a dishtowel on the counter next to the sink, but it got really wet and DH is afraid it will not be good for the counters. So I'm looking for another option, but I kind of hate the drying racks...

Re: Drying dishes question...

  • I hate drying racks too but that's what we use. DH was also maddened by a dish towel laid out on the counter, even if it was temporary. I have him clean out the drying rack every so often and I try to put it away if we are having people over and I need to de-clutter. But I think it's kind of a normal thing and people don't really notice it.

  • I hand-wash dishes so infrequently (I hate it!), so when I do, I just rest them on a towel next to the sink. So I don't think I'm any help.
  • We have a drying rack. I, too hate the look of it but I just tuck it in the cabinet under the kitchen sink when we are having people over. Do you have a dishwasher and just hand wash a few dishes? Or not have a dishwasher altogether?
  • We just have one of those dish drying mats and it works well. Plus it's really easy to tuck away in a drawer for company.

We have a dishwasher, but especially with DS's stuff, we hand wash a fair amount.

Is it silicone or microfiber? I am leaning towards one of these I think.

We have a dishwasher, but especially with DS's stuff, we hand wash a fair amount.

Sometimes when I hand wash stuff, especially bigger stuff like pots/pans I stick it in the empty dishwasher to dry. Not sure if that would work for you?

  • We have a wooden drying rack w/ a plastic liner underneath it.  We hand wash a good number of pots/pans and lots of our plastic (sippy cups and DD's plates) need to dry more when they come out of the dishwasher.

The rack folds up, but we rarely put it away.

If I overflow the regular drying rack, I put pots on the stove grates to dry.

  • We have a plastic tray that came with our dish rack. Since we have a dishwasher, we really only use the plastic tray. It actually slants, so that water drains into the sink. We still have a bottle drying rack that we use for DD's stuff, if it doesn't come out dry from the dishwasher. We also just put pots on the stove to dry...

Ours is grey and I love it since I can tuck it away if we're having folks over .its microfiber and washes well.

  • I normally just dry them on dish towel on the counter. But that's just big pots or pans that don't fit in the dishwasher.

  • I have two of the microfiber mats that I use...so when one needs washing, I have another!  Love them more than a drying rack!
  • Thanks for all the suggestions!! I ordered a microfiber mat, so I hope that works out!
