How much $$ to give for a wedding gift?

We're going to a wedding in Merrilleville (sorry for any spelling errors!) in a couple of weeks and are not sure how much $$ to give (we've been out of the wedding loop too long now!).  It's a pretty close friend's second wedding.

 Any suggestions are appreciated!

 Thanks!

Re: How much $$ to give for a wedding gift?

  • Most couples and families gave us $50-$100 for our second wedding.  Singles gave around the $25 range.  We specifically had family spread a "we are not registering and do not want gifts" message.  We only invited very close family and friends.  Our guest list was about 70 ppl just to give you an idea.  We also did an at home reception that my brother and I catered which followed an outdoor ceremony.  He was a Chef and I have a very high end kitchen.  Our guests raved about the food.
  • at our wedding 2 months ago we got from 20$ to 450$....take your pick!! :o)  Usually the way people do things is they want to pay for their plate...so for two people probably 40-50ish. . . thats why we got 450 from one family, because there were 9 of them!! Even though that was so dumb they did it, it was a nice thought!
  • Most of our friends were recent college grads when we got married, so they gave what they could.  We were really just thankful to have them there to share our day.  Generally speaking, I give $30 for someone we don't really know, $50 if we know them and are friends with them, and $100 to our very best and closest friends.

Where's the wedding at in Merriville?  I'm from that area originally.

  • Yeah, it really depends..most of our friends got married right out of college and actually needed stuff so we did a lot off registry's and spent between 30 - 50. That said, since we have given cash it depends on how close we are... usually between 50 - 100 depending on how close we are.
