So...I'm hosting a group of women this Friday for dinner, and am stuck debating whether to do an appetizer only dinner, or serve an actual dinner.
Appetizer only dinner would be 7-9 different appetizers, covering all major groups (protein, starch, veggie, snack/dips).
Dinner would be 2-3 appetizers, something easy, and a more substantial main course.
People are coming at 6:30 for dinner/drinks...I've been to get together's with this same group before, and everyone tends to mingle for the majority of the time, drinking and munching, which is why I was thinking appetizer only. And I don't have enough table space for everyone to sit down at once to eat, and I personally hate the balancing act when trying to eat/cut/etc. without a table.
So...what do you all think? Is an appetizer and cocktail dinner ok? Or would you expect and want a full dinner?
Thank you!!!
Re: Dinner party dilemma...
Hi! Welcome! I think in this situation apps only would be fine - especially since you are going to cover all major food groups to make it more balanced.
If you wanted to have something more substantial you could make little wraps or sandwiches even that wouldn't need a fork and knife. I would also add some cookies or little sweets...

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
This, especially with girls. I would try to pick a theme for flavors and then build the menu around it. Think Italian, Greek, certain regions, etc. Then, even thought it's all small bites, the evening will feel cohesive.
Another way to think of it is a Tapas party. I think the app party is great. It allows people to eat the things and quantity that they want.
