Nexplanon?

I just had Nexplanon put in on October 15th. It has barely been a week, but I'm feeling sort of crampy in my pelvis, and I'm starting to get worried about other side effects (blood clots, weight gain, trouble getting pregnant after removal, etc). I never worried as much when I was taking pills, because I could stop them at any time for any reason. I think this worries me more because I can't remove it on my own. It seemed like a good idea when I chose it and had it put in, but now I can't stop thinking about it. I also feel like my lower arm (in the arm the implant was put in) is tingly-ish, like the implant is pushing on a nerve or something. I would feel really stupid if I went back after only a week and had it removed, but my husband keeps saying if I'm this worried about it, it's not worth it and I should just take it out.

Has anyone used Implanon/Nexplanon? Like it/Hate it? Would I be crazy for taking it out before even giving it a shot?

Re: Nexplanon?

  • I've never had the implanon but I suggest you call your dr and get an appt to at least address the situation you're in and if you're still feeling like you want it removed, get it removed.  You may feel 'silly' now, but if you really dislike the way it's making you feel, nothing is 'silly' about it.  Listen to your body, and have an open ear to your dr's advice, but be your own advocate (no one else will be!).

  • Hi, I was lurking around and found your post.

I had the implanon for the three years and when it expired I went back to get a new one put it. I like it a lot because unlike the pills you don't have to worry about not taking it a day. When I got my new one put in they found an abnormal pap and now I want to try and have a baby but like you said, I cant take it out on my own. My new one has been in for about 2 months now and I'm scared to go back and they tell me that I should wait a while...

On the other hand, my periods suck.. I never know when they are coming or when they are leaving. I usually get my period for a whole month and then get it again a month later! It sucks!! My arm never felt weird with the first one but with this second one my arm feels weird too but I just ignore it Embarrassed I also feel like my sex drive sucks ;( and many woman say its harder to lose weight with the implanon!

If my biopsy comes back ok DH and I want to TTC so I will be getting it removed hopefully this year. And If we do have a baby I would get a new implanon put in.

In my opinion, I like it but it also sucks! It has its ups and downs but I put up with it for 3 years and I think i can handle it unless i find something similar and better.

Hope this helps a little GL

  • I was lurking and saw this. I got mine put in back in May and my arm did feel strange for a month or two. It felt like it was pinching. My experience so far has been great, but everybody reacts different. I got it put in on my period, had a normal period and then a week of really light spotting. I didn't get another period until August and it was just really light spotting for two weeks. I haven't had one since. I got it based on a recommendation of a friend who is now on their second. They also got pregnant after the first one was removed pretty fast. I can only tell you my experience, but I am a firm believer in if you don't feel right about it then find something else. You have every right to change your mind.
