Hello... I have recently really started cooking a lot more, and I am making my meal planner for the next 2 weeks for grocery shopping tomorrow...
My problem is I have so many recipes for chicken and beef meals... I want more of a variety in foods though...
Im ok with some fish, but H wont do sea food...
What suggestions do you all have for dinners that don't involve chicken or beef?
Thanks everyone!

Re: Other dinner ideas...
He wont do shrimp... its too chewy for him...
as far as beef... we do ground beef and steak meat...
I really wish he would do fish, like salmon... I love salmon!!!
I do suppose I could throw in porkchops in there... Im not a huge fan of them... but it is different...
To me, people who say they don't like seafood sound about as silly as someone who would say, "I don't like landfood". There are so many types and varieties out there that I would encourage you to try a different one every week, even if just a filet of different types and seeing what sticks. Also, you don't want you kids growing up thinking they don't like something they've never tried.
A few ideas - we eat hamsteak pretty often - it is easy and cooks fast. What about ground turkey or a turkey breast? We also eat meatless - black bean cakes come to mind. Homemade pizza is pretty easy (I cheat and buy the crust). And if you don't like pork chops, what about a roast in the crockpot?
Have you ever tried quinoa? These are two of my favorite quinoa recipes:
Quinoa "burgers"
Mexican Quinoa-Stuffed Peppers
They are both very filling with no meat.
I do a lot of pasta with vegetables or with meat sauce.
You can make tacos or enchiladas with beans and veggies, or with chicken, pork, or beef.
I have a great quinoa lasagna recipe with quinoa, spinach, kale, and cheese.
I have a few vegetarian bolognese sauces as well-those are to fool people who like meat.
I also really enjoy quinoa recipes.
Here are a couple of ideas that you can consider:
- consider substituting ground turkey instead of ground beef in your spaghetti/chili recipes
- pork tenderloin
- lamb chops (I used to be really intimidated by these but they are really easy if you pan fry them)
Try tilapia. It's not very fishy (it's the only fish I can get DH to eat). Just put some lemon slices and rosemary on it and broil it for 5-10 mins. it's really yummy, and like I said, not fishy like salmon can be sometimes.
non-seafood fish (fresh water fish), pork, ostrich, turkey, lamb, bison, alligator, vegetable, grain, bean......the list goes on and on.
i agree. saying you hate all seafood is silly. and shrimp shoudn't be chewy if cooked properly. what about lobster? mussels? calamari? bass? tuna?
Thank you all so much!
I will have to check out this whole quinoa stuff... some of those look really yummy!!!
I think he has had tilapia once... maybe Ill try that one again...
same with salmon being "fishy". If it's fishy, you've overcooked it.
agreed. it has a stronger flavor than some other fish but by no means should it be fishy.
Agreed! It is either not fresh, or over cooked!
Pork Tenderloin! Put a smallish one in the oven at 425 until it reaches 150 degrees F. It takes about 25 for me, but that will depend on the size of the tenderloin.
I love this "recipe" because I just switch up the spices depending on what I feel like. Tonight: Cumin and ancho chile. Another time? Italian seasoning and garlic. Don't feel like that? Ginger, scallion, soy sauce. Plus, pork tenderloin is very lean, so it's healthy!
my read shelf:
thank you so much everyone!
so we went to the store, and I bought tilapia and told him he is going to try it... lol
also bought a pork tenderloin, we will see how that goes over (i've never cooked one)
