Effleurage

effleurage
[ef'l?r?zh']

Etymology: Fr, skimming the surface

a technique in massage in which long, light, or firm strokes are used, usually over the spine and back. Fingertip effleurage is a light technique performed with the tips of the fingers in a circular pattern over one part of the body or in long strokes over the back or an extremity. Fingertip effleurage of the abdomen is a technique commonly used in the Lamaze method of natural childbirth.

So we learned about this in childbirth class last night.  While relaxing back against our partners, our teacher had them do effleurage (or as she pronounced it eff-loo-age).  It was very relaxing.

Having a stressful morning so I'm sitting here doing this to myself.  It may look weird but it seems to be helping.  Wanted to share as it's not just childbirth related.
