    Exactly!

Exactly what?  You make no sense.  Are you agreeing with Fez then?

  • I don't think Obama should play Trump's games either. And, as my DH remarked, "If Trump wants to give money to charity (or more money to charity, since he probably already does some), why not just do it?

I see this as a test of Obama's convictions, though. He has said that he stands with the Middle Class and the people trying to move up into the Middle Class. $5M to charities, which predominately serve these demographics, WOULD be a testament to Obama's previous words along the campaign trail.

Does not taking Trump up on his offer show a lack of follow-through on Obama's words? Or "talking the talk, but not walking the walk?"

In addition, it's politcal season and antics are antics, but why has Obama been the "least transparent" president and candidate? Why can't the American people know about his studies and papers/thesis or whatever?

Regardless of Trump, I do think this puts Obama in a tough spot. And, how someome handles tough spots does influence what others, voters, think.

I don't think it does show a lack of convictions and follow-through.  Isn't the best tactic to not negotiate with terrorists?  Giving in shows weakness.

Indeed, the U.S. policy is not to negotiate with terrorists. But, as much as Trump weirds a lot of us out, calling him a terrorist is not really in-line. Using that word is serious business...I think he is being weird here, but calling the man a violent, hate-filled criminal who takes lives in the most violent of ways, is out of line.

But, yes, Obama giving in could show weaknes son Obama's part. I don't like Trump, but he isn't a terrorist and we can't use that term lightly. Too many people have died fighting true terrorists.

I don't need a lecture on terrorism and the men who fight to protect us.  Believe me when I say I am intimate with the subject.

They aren't mutually exclusive. It can be both #1 and #2. I don't think Obama should play Trump's game. But, yes, if he doesn't play, the Middle Class doesn't get $5M. Rock and hard place the way I see it. And, Obama has used rhetoric in support of the Middle Class all along. He has a tough choice to make.

  • I think the burden is on Trump to prove he has $5M. Put it in an escrow account to show you're serious. I don't believe for a second he's worth that much, unless it's -$5M.

And which would you deride him for more?  You obviously will say anything to make it seem like our Pres. sucks.  You just laid out your own spin.  He's not really between a rock and a hard place.  His only choice is to ignore Trump.  Only people like you, who see everything he does in a negative light, will think of this in such a warped way.  His refusal to play a wealthy man's extortionists game does not make him seem anti-middle class. At all.

Also, I agree with LuckyDad...I'm not sure I believe Trump has $5 million cash money available to him.

  • Ok I'll preface this question/comment with 2 things:

     A) I think Trump is Lame-O to the max!

     B) I am voting for Mittens

Now here is my question. Why did Barry seal his college records? It is my understanding that he is the ONLY president that has done so. I don't for one minute care if he was an A+ student or a flunky. I don't care if he peddled narcotics in his college days. What would be the purpose of NOT being transparent in this regard.

  • The absolute best response to this would be for Obama himself to donate $5 million to a charity/ies of his choosing. Sadly, I don't think the Obamas have that kind of money just waiting to be spent, but it would be such an epic FU to this whole absurdity.

And no, he shouldn't even acknowledge it. It's a petty, juvenile level that Trump has stooped to these last couple years.

If I had something to hide I wouldn't release the info. I guess.

    How?

How do you release your passport application.  That's what Trump asked for.  Once you've applied, you no longer have any passport application!  I certainly don't have access to that.

And you wouldn't have the other stuff he asked for, either.  You might be able to get your college to agree to release them, if they still had them - but could you get it before Oct 31?  Because the deals off if you can't.

I wonder how it works with colleges.  Do they really still have kids applications from the 70s? (And if so - why?)   Do they send them to a storage facility or what?  Unless they've microfiched them, and later scanned them to jpg, I bet that takes a while to find.

I like that idea of putting $5M in escrow if indeed Trump is serious. Also, the idea of Obama just donating his own money, $5M is a good one too.

To address the bolded, first, "anti-middle class," your words, not mine. Obama has supported us all along, I just restated an undeniable fact that he supports the MIddle Class and nothing I stated points to me thinking he is anti-Middle Class if he does not take the money. Not sure what is 'warped," also your word, about that. $5M is a lot of dough for a charity. So, I do think Obama is between a rock and a hard place. Passing that up sucks. Stating this point does not point to me seeing this in a "negative light," your words again. It is just a stinky spot.

But, I have been looking at major news neworks, I have not seen this Trump/Obama story on any of the major front pages. So, I think the whole thing will just fizzle out anyway.
