Rescued dogs

How many have rescued a pet?  Do you have an amazing story to share?  This is the life story of a 7-year-old boy with a fear of open spaces, but he finally overcame his fears thanks to a 3-legged dog.  <3

Re: Rescued dogs

  • Rescued dogs are the best :)

The beagle in my siggy is my rescue Wesley.  I got him from a high kill shelter as a foster, and he was petrified of everyone.  After a few days of TLC and snuggling, he became SO attached to me, and to this day he just is my little shadow.  He's still shy around strangers, but has come out of his shell so much.  He's my baby :)

  • I have an almost 3 year old rescued lab.  She was only 32lbs when the picked her up and she was heartworm positive.  She is now a healthy 75lbs and I have had her 7 months .  She is just a huge part of our lives.  I have had 3 cats and 5 dogs in my life.  All of them were rescues!!

  • My girl Sadie is a 6-year-old (approx) chocolate lab. She was discovered in Michigan by my sisters friend in a grocery store parking lot scrounging for food. She was starving and literally days from death. She had been living in the woods behind the grocery store for a long time. Long enough that her collar was rusted onto her. It had to be cut off. She had no tags and no microchip. She had also recently had puppies and had a horrible mammary tumour (we believe from nursing her babies in dirty conditions). She had been eating whatever scraps she could find, but then expelling all her energy and calories to breastfeed her pups. She was at least 20 lbs underweight.

The girl who found her brought her home and through the generosity of strangers online (I thank god for them every day! They saved her life) she was able to save enough money to have Sadie's tumour removed. I happened to go with my sister to visit her friend in Michigan about three weeks after she had taken Sadie in. Due to financial reasons, she could not keep her and was looking for a permanent home for her. I was only 21 at the time and was not considering adopting a dog...but it was love at first sight. She was on my lap within minutes and never got off.

I went back the next weekend to pick her up and took her across the border to Ontario with me. Since then we have been living happily ever after. She is truly the love of my life!

She is currently curled up between me and my boyfriend on our big fluffy bed, tired from her after dinner walk :)
