I've been on the shot for about 8 months and have gained a little over 20 lbs because of it......and I love it! I used to be a stick figure but now I'm finally starting to feel comfortable in my body.
My question is: Whenever the time comes that my husband and I want to think about having kids and I stop taking birth control, will I lose this weight? Will I go back to the way I looked before? Before I began birth control I tried and tried and tried to gain weight any way possible but to no avail. I don't want to lose this self confidence but I have no idea what to expect.
Re: birth control depo shot
Personally I have never been on the shot myself. I have taken many types of BCP in a 5 year period. The longest I could stay on any pill was about 7 months before I would start feeling side effects, mainly depression and I would stop taking them. I am a stick figure and always have been, all my BCP made me suffer from lack of appetite. For 2 years I did not take any birth control and now I have a 17 month old son who I love dearly.
Possibly what could happen with your new and improved body is it will stay the same! After the baby you will more than likely lose all gained baby weight and a few that was pre-baby (if you excersize). Before my pregnancy I was 98 lbs, now I am about 110 and I dont work out like I did before my baby.
Maybe I should do the depo shot and gain weight so I will feel more comfortable in my own skin
I gained a lot on the depo shot, have been off it for 3.5 years and am still working to get the weight down. I was on it for 4 years and gained about 60 lbs, even while doing sports and the like. I think the only way you'd go back to the way you were before is if you actively try to go back to that size.
My problem was going off of it; I didn't have my period for about a year after I got off it and when I did get it, I was having 3 week long periods with one week off. I had to get on the pill to get regulated and after hearing about my situation, I was told by the doctor how horrible depo is for you and that it should have never been recommended for me. I was also 15 when I went on it, so I'm not sure if that plays a role.
