PMS isn't real

I nearly threw something at the TV last night when I was watching KDKA's news story about the study questioning the validity of PMS.

Just because it doesn't effect everyone doesn't mean it's not real.  And trust me lady in bloomfield--I am not acting out to get attention.  Some pople are just more sensitive to hormonal fluct

Also the sotry was poorly written and hard to follow.  The sound bites seemed out of context and didn't have any connectors to form it into an intelligent package.  a complete waste of 1:00, since the point of it (I think) was that PMS needs more study.

But--seriously--dont' tell a woman in the throes of PMS that it's not real.

Re: PMS isn't real

  • Even if you take the hormones completely out of the equation, it's still totally justified to be cranky because of any of the other factors that go along with your period...back ache, cramps, headache, etc....

This study was probably done by men.  Men who will never experience it, and God help us all if they did.

this... and I have at least a day of general lack of patience before my period starts.  I am short with people and (more) argumentative.  call it what you want, but it is a regularly occurring grump fest that I would avoid if I could.

  • The local news has no business "reporting" on stuff like this.  Reason 4,693 I don't watch local news.

As for PMS, I've recently started to experience nausea with mine.  Real fun.

I've had nausea with mine too since Nolan was born.

  • I read this on the other board, and it didn't seem that the study was really about PMS not existing, but that moods/hormones are cyclical and that these symptoms may not occur for all women, or occur but at different times (taking away the P from PMS).  Basically addressing the assumption that all women are cra-cra the week before their period. (the study also didn't include women under treatment for PMDD, which, hello)

As one of the women who IS on an emotional roller coaster the week before her period (and my cycles are completely irregular, so I have no way of knowing when to fake PMS), I was at first pissed, but once I read more into the study and other people's view, it made a lot more sense.  I'm all in support of breaking down the you b!tches be crazy stereotype of women's hormones, and news stories like this certainly don't help!

  • I eat everything in the house and have 0 tolerence and sleep every time I get the chance for about 2 days before my period.  I would LOVE for that not to happen!

Good thing you weren't PMSing when you were watching this - no telling WHAT you would have done! Stick out tongue

I'm at the point where I don't believe much of any research/study anymore - just the thought of the money wasted on some of the studies is enough to make me go all PMS on them.

that and I hate how the media reports on the study that can often skew what the results actually say.

  • And then this appears on pinterest...

  • That picture is so offensive; they left out the donuts on the "7 days before period" section.

  • Kris that is perfect!

And yes Amanda--it really seems like the media is always trying to make something out of nothing.
