phone help???

I am ready to scream - throw the phone across the room and see how well it shatters against the wall, etc.

I have a Samsung Galaxy II.  Got it in February.  I am with Sprint and have been for 14 years (if for any reason this information is needed).  I HATE this phone...have not liked it since the beginning, but missed the window to return it and decided to stick it out since I have all my other gadgets (laptop, kindle fire, iPod Touch and the big fancy camera) too.  I stopped into the BB store where I originally got it and asked what my options were outside of paying full price for a new phone.  They could send it out for a refurbished.  Is that my best option right now?  Am I going to get another Galaxy only to discover it isn't just my particular phone but all Galaxies are horrible?  I decided I may as well hold on to it...primarily because of the pictures/videos even though they all automatically upload to photobucket with the app.  However, this morning, it has pretty much died.  Dead.  Totally.  Well, not completely, the screen shows 'Samsung Galaxy S II' and I am guessing it will until the battery dies (which, if history repeats itself, shouldn't take too long).

What would you do?  What should I do?  Outside of getting this replaced with a refurbished phone since I have about a year and a half before I qualify for an upgrade, where can I legitimately purchase a new phone for some not so exorbitant price?

Re: phone help???

  • Love the D! I'm from GR

Anywhoo...I am waiting on my iphone, have an ipad (or two) all DH idea.  Unfortunately, he is right. The i products just work. That's his reasoning, and it's true...at least so far.

  • Seriously disappointed in the D right now...but alas.

I am getting a refurbished, stuck with a loaner right now and it is killing me.  I am planning to get DH a new iPhone for christmas and hoping I am able to make the refurbished one stick it out a little while longer and then suck it up and spend much more than I wanted to or should on a new phone.

  • I'm also a long time Sprint customer, and I had a similar situation with a Blackberry.  The phone never worked like it was supposed to; I went throught 3 of them in one year.  Fortunately, I didn't have to pay for the replacements (well, maybe $36 or something).  Still, it got frustrating having to change phones that often.  My contract cx fee was only $100 or $150 bucks.  I ended up just cx my contract, and then getting an iPhone as a new customer elsewhere.

  • Assuming you are both on Sprint, you might be able to use his old phone when you get him the iPhone.
  • I have the Epic (the S2 that slides) and I am not happy with it. I've used Android since the very first one came out. I have used i Phones a bit before and really like android better (however the new iPhone's battery is intriguing). I don't think I'd buy another Samsung (this is my first). I'll look into a different manufacturer with Android once my renewal comes up. Either with Sprint or anyone else cheaper. The nexus looks good.

  • I just got a Samsung Galaxy Nexus and it is probably the best phone I have ever owned. I was with AT&T for years, switched to Sprint for 2 years and only just now switched to Verizon.

I might be biased in my love of the nexus though because it is my first smart phone and with verizon I actually have reception everywhere (I got zero reception for the most part from Sprint).

If your phone stops working you should be able to get Sprint to send you a new one? If the phone is defective that isn't your fault.
