I just realized

That if Sandy was coming a week later, it could REALLY mess up election day. Let's hope the storm, if it comes, is in and out quickly and the damage doesn't prevent people from voting on the 6th, and that no other severe weather issues happen.

Re: I just realized

  • The storm is expected to affect weather for 5-7 days.  It still can mess with the election.  People will be displaced in shelters and polling places may not have power.

It is definitely something to watch, even if you aren't in the affected areas.  I am currently planning on needing a week's worth of supplies based on the latest models.

  • This is why voting early is so great!

We don't have the option to do that here. :(

I would have to lie about why I need to do absentee.  I guess I could say that I plan on being out of town.  Cause I am leaving for the farm if we loose power.

  • I would think that in this kind of situation (natural disaster where early voting isn't possible) that voting could be allowed after Nov. 6th.

Preppin's expensive! Stick out tongue  But if you want something to store some clean/fresh water in: check out the WaterBob. I discovered it over the summer. I was actually just thinking of you b/c you're in N. VA. I used to live in RIC. Good luck.

    Touche.

It really is expensive, though.  I do have my stash but needed to restock my beer.  Yowza.

They are currently calling it a natural horror show.  But that's the media hyping it somewhat.  I tend to go by what EOCs are standing up and when to base the real severity.

It is. We did a little at a time with each grocery run. For longer term storage we did some 5 gallon buckets with gamma lids and inclosed all of the dried goods in mylar bags with oxygen absorbers. Our thought is to provide for our family of two adults and little kids and have some stuff for neighbors too. it isn't much, but it prevents us from having to run to an emptying grocery store in the time of need.

WaterBob is a food grade quality plastic liner with top that attaches to your bathtub faucet and allow for up to 100 gallons of clean water storage. As it fills, it takes on the shape and support of the bathtub. It also has a spigot for easy access to the water. Anyway, I think it's a one time use type of thing, so I haven't tested it. I was thinking the movie The Road when I bought it. It was around $25 on Amazon. So I figured what the heck! Should try this.

It seems to be state-by-state, but no.  They don't extend the deadline.  They have contingencies in place but no extension.

    I am still researching though.

  • I don't think there would be much issue with most of the states up here when it comes to the President elect since we're blue states but voting for the local elections would be the big issue.

I'm sure it'll be a huge headache in the swing states.
