My sister in law is really late with her period. Her usual cycle is 30 days and she's on day 46. She's taken multiple pregnancy tests and they're all negative. From what I know, false negatives aren't very common this late right?
At what point should she be concerned and go to the doctor? (She doesn't have insurance right now so she doesn't want to rush to an appointment ifthat will cost her a couple of hundred dollars it's not necessary)
TIA!
Re: Period question
She may have ovulated late and therefore her cycle is longer this time around. There is no need to go to the doctor at this time. She should keep taking pregnancy tests every week and if still negative and her cycle last over 60 days, then she should go to the doctor so they can give her meds to start her period.
TTC since September 2012
She's got something going on: it's something hormonal, something thyroid, some other pituitary gland related health issue or something else -- maybe she is very underweight or very overweight (both can do weird things to your menstrual cycle) or she's exercising way way too much -- these are only a few reasons I can think of for a very delayed period.
She needs to go to a walk in clinic at a teaching hospital -- or go to Planned Parenthood. she needs an exam and some tests run.
Just wanted to add that there are multiple reasons as why her period is late, but 46 days is no reason to be alarmed. I do think that if she is not pregnant, then it is most likely hormonal, but again a 46 day cycle is no reason to freak out. If her body doesn't start her cycle on it's own, her doctor will start her cycle medicinally.
My cycles run 28 usually. My period after my wedding was 42 days. I was concerned but once the pregnancy test was negative, I knew that my stress from planning my wedding caused me to ovulate later than normal which cause my period to be delayed.

I went through this just this cycle. It was really late and I was getting worried. There are many things that could be affecting it, like stress, diet, exercise, etc.
One thing that was thought to be more than likely the case for me is just starting a vitamin regimen. I never knew that could affect my cycle!
I would say tell her not to worry too much at this time and just pay attention to her body. Also maybe there is a free nurse help line she could call? I have one attached to my insurance, but I have called it for a friend before!
This exactly. Unless she's charting, she doesn't know for sure that her period is "late." If she ovulated later than "normal" than it technically isn't time for her period

I agree that she could've ovulated later.
However, I would still go to the Dr.
Hope she finds out something soon.
