Neighbors Dog

Hello All,

I never post over here but I was hoping I could get some resources for a neighbors dog. The people that moved in a few months ago have a white poodle, or at least once upon a time it was a white poodle. They do not in anyway care for this poor thing, in fact 95% of the time it's roaming around the neighborhood. I actually have a friend whose daughter goes to school with my neighbors daughter, the girl actually revealed that her mom left the dog in a field a few miles from the house trying to get rid of it but the dog found its way back. Filthy isn't even a word for it, it's fur is absolutely disgusting and I assume the poor guy/girl is hungry. I have compassion for it but given I have a son who is very allergic to dogs I will not take it in and the fact that it normally barks at me or anyone else walking by for that matter keeps me from even wanting to trick it into my yard until someone can help.

After debating for weeks I finally called animal control, flame me if you must, I know what happens to dogs that end up in the pound but given the severe neglect this pup gets I believes a few consistent meals, with shelter and the possibility if adoption with decent people was a better alternative. Well animal control never came, I have called twice more since. I don't know if they aren't seeing the pup outside or what but there is no way they could have spoken to the owners and left him that way.

And of course the darn thing barks at all hours of the night, likely because its cold. :-/ Any ideas on how I could try and help this thing?

Re: Neighbors Dog

  • The first step would be actually talking to your neighbor.

AC probably can't do too much if the dog is in its backyard, as long as it has water and shelter, there's not much that they can do.

After you talk to your neighbor, you could try to contact your local Dogs Deserve Better contact, as well as documenting the barking (when the dog is barking, the temperature outside, etc.) and filing a noise complaint with your local police department.

  • Honestly I am not sure talking to the neighbor would do any good. Most likely if they wanted to get rid of it, they are not going to do anything if you talk to them. Do have a local ASPCA, or animal shelter you could call? Maybe they could offer some advice or offer to come pick up the dog. I would keep calling animal control esp if it?s wondering. Maybe it will eventually get picked up and brought inside.  I know you said you don?t want to take due to allergies but aren?t poodles non-allergenic? Just something to think about!

  • Do you have an update on this? This poor door was suffering. I hope something was done. That is not a life any animal should live.
