While I do enjoy Halloween a lot....

....I will be grateful when it is over this year, thanks to my neighbors across the street.  Nothing at all against them personally, but they have some decorations in their yard that are terrifying Jake. (his window faces their front yard)  The main offender is a menacing looking skeleton mask with a black cloak type thing around it that hangs down to look like a person, and it's holding a knife. It's hanging from a tree, and they shine a spotlight on it at night, so of course it sways in the wind and looks all spooky.

Poor Jake, every night, when I tell him goodnight, he says to himself "it's not real.  It's just a decoration.  right mommy? it's not real??  promise it's not real?"   Then the other day, I heard him saying to Liam, "Liam-mommy said that thing over there isn't real, so we shouldn't worry.  But, if it comes alive, like in the nighttime when I'm in my room, I'll take it down like a superhero.  You'll be fine".  Indifferent

I hope they take it down as soon as ToT is over on Saturday!!

  • Oh the poor bugger!!

Do you know the neighbors well enough that maybe you could ask them to not have the light on at night this year?

I don't really know them at all, aside from waving to them on occasion.  They actually had stopped turning the lights on for a week or so (i don't know if they were out of town, or just didn't remember) but it came back on the past 2 nights.

  • Oh Jake is sweet! Him talking to Liam is precious.  That is scary to me!! I don't get the decorations like that. I am all about pumpkins, etc but not that stuff! Poor Jake. Let's hope they make up for it with some nice Christmas lights for Jake to admire!
  • There are some Halloween decorations that are so hideous and scary-looking (and it sounds like your neighbors' falls into this category) that I wonder why people want them in their house or in their yard. If it looks like an actual dead person, why would you buy it?

There's a pretty stone house that I pass all the time that has a huge, dead-looking grim reaper hung on the outside, and I always wonder WTF they are thinking.

I hope your neighbors move on to Christmas quickly!!!
