Bad Knees: Any DVD/program recs?
Hi, I have horrible knees. I tried things like 30 Day Shred; the lunges and jumping killed me. I'd love to do something from Beach Body, but am scared to try, since the weakness. Any recommendations would be appreciated. I would love to lose some weight!!! Plus, less weight would help my knees, lol!
Re: Bad Knees: Any DVD/program recs?
There are all reason for "bad knees"
Why are your knees so bad? Have you gone to a doctor? Are you taking glucosamine? I avoided knee surgery by building up the muscle around my knees and taking glucosamine, but I realize that doesn't work for everyone.
You need to know with low impact, but if it's possible, you do need to build u muscle around your knees to help support them more..
I have no video recs, as I don't like rec'ing anything when I don't know your exact injury... your best bet may be to keep to things like walking, the elliptical, and strength training until your leg muscles are stronger

I have bad knees and hips. The women in my family have patella-femoral syndrome. It's where the knees don't quite fit in the joint right and they slide. Runners get it after years of running sometimes. so, they'll slide temporarily if I twist wrong and run like normal (only can on an elliptical). I didn't have to take PE in school because of it and as a result the muscles in my hips and knees are now non existent. I went to a physical therapist that said he'd never seen such low muscle in those areas (in 15 years of practice!)
They had me doing the bike, elliptical, leg press, etc. I have found that I have to skip a lot of exercise routine steps because lunges and squats can hurt a lot. Either omit them, or do a less strenuous version (don't go as deep in to the lunge) and work up the strength in the joint?
Also, Eurobelle, some Physical Therapy offices have a day care center in them. perhaps something like that would be suitable. I only went for about 2 weeks to learn the exercises and then I did them all at home/gym
A lot of times, it's solely because of being abusive and not KNOWING how to take care of them.. Like other's mentioned... Make sure you're doing the moves correctly, and i would HIGHLY suggest taking glucosamine. If it's a joint issue, that thing can work wonders. It's just a supplement that helps lubricate your joints.
ETA: I realize that I took a different turn on your thread than you had wanted.. but I strongly believe that it's not about working around our weaknesses. It's about making those weaknesses into strengths. Or at least understand WHY it's a weakness. Your legs are sooo important. They carry you in this life. It's important to keep them strong and healthy. I know as a mom, it's hard to put yourself first.. but this is for your life long health. Try a couple things and if nothing works.. see a dr. For your sake and your children's sakes
