automatic litter box cleaner suggestions?

Hi there,

I've been considering investing in an automatic litter box cleaner like the LitterMaid for quite a while, but I'm nervous that it won't be worth the money. Does anyone use these? How long has yours lasted? Should I take the plunge or not?

Re: automatic litter box cleaner suggestions?

  • We have one, and I think it's worth the money. We have two cats and we would have to clean the box several times a day if we didn't have it done automatically. Make sure you get a good clumping litter, otherwise it won't do it's job. The recepticle gets emptied a few times a week and we find it needs cleaning at the same time, but we don't clean the box nearly as often as when we had a traditional box.
  • I wouldn't because they are pricey and many cats are afraid of them.  I have one cat that I know wouldn't go near it.

I would consider a high quality food so they poop less.  We have 5 cats and only need to scoop once a day.  They are on a raw diet and have much less waste than any other food they've had.  Of course, you don't need to do raw but definitely consider high quality kibble and wet food.  Use dogfoodanalysis.com (sorry it's not clicky) to help you find one.  Many manufacturers of dog food also make cat food of similar quality.
