Any Bill O'Reilly fans here?
I just started watching his show and find him to be objective. Does anyone else here watch his show?
Like him? Hate him? Meh...?
Re: Any Bill O'Reilly fans here?
I don't hate him, but I am not a fan of him. At all. But by calling him objective I have to assume you're just posting this to get a rise out of people.
No. not at all. I thought he was an independent.
I came across this....
"In his book The O'Reilly Factor, he wrote, "You might be wondering if whether I'm conservative, liberal, libertarian, or exactly what.... See, I don't want to fit any of those labels, because I believe that the truth doesn't have labels. When I see corruption, I try to expose it. When I see exploitation, I try to fight it. That's my political position."" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politic...l_O'Reilly
. I really like his show because he probes people he interviews whether they are Republican, Democrat or Independent.
Like Sean Hannity? LOL
I can see where a person with a fresh new interest in politics could see O'Reilly as objective at first.....but as you grow and learn and experience politics on a deeper level you will find he is not so.
I watched him during the "hanging chad" era and got wrapped up in the hype. Now I can only take very small doses of him.
I think I can see parallels in "The Newsroom" (HBO show) and him and curious if anyone else agrees.
There are Bill O'Reilly fans? Huh. Learn something new every day!
When only the cons on this board call him objective, I think you have your answer. As a PP said, I agree with a lot of what Bill Maher says, but I don't go around trying to pretend he is objective.
His books are selling very well and are supposed to be easy reads.
I do my best to avoid all talking heads. Bill O tops my list. I find him underinformed and way to opinionated to be remotely considered objective. Also, his personality irks me.
Also, a loooong time ago news and journalism used to be about reporting facts and figures not about commentary and peoples' opinions. I want actual news not some event filtered through a biased reporter giving me their personal viewpoints and thoughts. Frankly, I don't give a damn.
Tell me the when, who, how, where, and why the event occured. Don't give me the "spin zone" BS.
Unfortunately, the news is all full of opinion journalism these days and even when folks think they're getting some unbiased reporting, they really aren't - every news agency has an agenda. Fox News, CNN, and right on down the line...
my DH really liked Killing Lincoln. He got it as an audio book
Totally agree.
Absolutely agree.
The fact that O'Reilly is my Father's favorite show is proof enough to me that he is far from unbiased or objective.
Plus, he has a really crappy personality, dude thinks he is a God.
That's because his base audience moves their lips when they read.
The apocalypse must be imminent, because I actually agree with MommyLiberty on something.
I find Bill O'Reilly to be not in the least bit objective, and I don't think there's anything unique about his political philosophy that defies categorization- he strikes me as a pretty run-of-the-mill conservative. Also, he's extremely arrogant and rude to many of his liberal guests- I've watched him cut people off and literally yell at them to shut up.
I strongly encourage anyone who thinks Bill O'Reilly is objective to read Al Franken's "Lies, and the Lying Liars who tell them".
Franken thoroughly proves O'Reilly is a huge liar, using citations of objective sources and referencing specific dates of broadcast. The book basically is an indictment of what a wretched human being O'Reilly is. He's a monster.
Actually, he's tremendously insecure and has a huge chip on his shoulder. He's an angry human being full of hate and rage.
I guess I need to read Franken's book! I definitely see the anger. In fact, I remember a video circulating a few years back of him freaking out before one of his shows.
The Franken book is a little dated these days, but still quite funny, and a good example of how political books should be written, with actual sources cited to back up opinions.
O'Reilly's most famous melt-down is probably him yelling at the son of a 9/11 victim. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&ved=0CDsQFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fplaylist%3Flist%3DPL975B80E002CC8448&ei=KBuUUKmAFMTm2AX9yoG4Aw&usg=AFQjCNHTFKeUYNREz-BRacQckmXuidIxBA&sig2=kvmPQtTdGPYm0ZYGBEmWqg
Hugely tasteless, and surprising it didn't get him fired. His sexual harrassment of a former producer is pretty awful too. Just google "O'Reilly falafel"
I didn't realize Dennis Miller is on his show every Wednesday. Dennis is hilarious!
This is the best thing that Bill O'Reilly ever did.

The rest of the time he's a smug, self-righteous asshat with little to no understanding of the words "compassion" or "intelligent discourse"
The interesting thing about what he did here is that he does it much more often than he gets (or takes) credit for. But, you know, being that he's a "smug, self-righteous asshat with little to no understanding of the words compassion or intelligent discourse"...you likely don't know that.
Maybe he should take the credit more often. It might give him wider viewership if he shows that he's more compassionate than his words show.
