Front Entryway Mat

We moved into our new home recently and we had the hardwood flooring throughout refinished. We live in Mississauga, Ontario so we are expecting a fair bit of rain/slush/slow over the next few months. I'm worried about the hardwood in our entryway and know I need to get some kind of a rug/mat to protect the wood. Everything I've seen so far is very rubbery and unstylish so I thought I'd reach out to see if you ladies have any suggestions. Thanks!

Re: Front Entryway Mat

  • My first step would be to get a large mat for the exterior of my entryway to stop the initial mess right there. Also, as you said, you probably do not want a rubber material on your hardwood as it often leaves marks or stains when it sits for a long while.

Maybe check out something like a kitchen mat that has high absorbancy? The other option is a big towel folded. Or even a bath mat.

  • I wouldn't care about style in the winter as long as it kept your floors great throughout the rest of the year.
  • We have an outside mat on our front porch where people can wipe off their feet and get most the gook off them. Then we have one of Nate Berkus' rugs from Target right inside our door on the hardwood. It's cream and teal chevron. This gives us a place to put any shoes that are still damp.
