Bookshelf Decor

Hi,

I have shelves in my family room that flank the fireplace. What is your favorite way to decorate these? And, do you have any suggestions for how to make them look filled, but not junky?

I have a ton of books, there are some black and white family photos to display and I also have some various travel items/souvenirs as well as a green glass collection (vases, bottles, etc.) to display.

I am at a road block and I feel like the shelves look cold if I have few items on them and too cluttered if I put lots of stuff on.

Also, I am going by the rule of odd numbers. Thanks. I guess I need some direction.

Re: Bookshelf Decor

  • I like to look at Crate & Barrel catalogs for ideas- they always display a 'just right' amount of stuff.

For me, I like a mix of sizes and textures/materials. So not all glass, not all natural/wood type materials, but a mixture.

Good luck, I know how frustrating it can be. I have a similar shelving situation and I rearrange every couple of months until I'm happy again!

  • Candles, maybe unique or collectable china plates on plate holders? Maybe a little succilant garden? They can survive most places!

I actually attempted to do this over the weekend. It is so frustrating to try and fill up blank shelves.
