long living room PROBLEM

my living room in the home im purchasing is very long and narrow...any decoration ideas or pics?

Re: long living room PROBLEM

  • we put the couch along the long side and chairs on the ends in a U shape to keep everything open.  If the sofa is on the end you have a focal point and the room is not "opened up" hope that makes sense, and good luck!
  • We have a long, somewhat narrow living room, with the WBFP on one of the long walls. We wound up purchasing a sectional and a recliner and grouped them towars the middle of the room, then did smaller sub-areas on the two ends with just a bench and a table for my DH's puzzle hobby.

  • One of our homes had this same thing. We found it easiest to put the TV along the shorter wall and put furniture along the sides. But it would depend on the pieces of furniture you have. I made the long wall behind our couch a focal wall for pictures. We also got 2 large cabinets to "book-end" our TV and we put all our knick-knacks and decor on those!

  • That's good space to put a sectional couch.

  • We also have a very long living room and at first I was slightly confused on how to decorate it. We had purchased a couch a year before we purchased our home so we weren't in the market for another couch so we kept it. Our couch is a sectional and only fits in the room one way so we divided the room since it is also open to the kitchen. Half of the room is our 'living room' with our sectional couch, coffee table and TV mounted on the wall. The other half of the room is our 'dining room', which has a fireplace on the short end, we put a 6 seat dining room table on that half of the room. We put our Christmas tree in the corner next to the fireplace in the 'dining room', it does involve some rearranging but not much.
