Do these go together?

I'm new to decorating.

Does this sofa in chocolate brown: http://www.jcpenney.com/dotcom/jsp/browse/product.jsp?fromBag=true&quantity=2&ppId=1d2a1fa&fromName=false&catId=Bag&commerceId=ci4671019249&selectedLotId=7925092&selectedSKUId=79250920018&childItemPresent=true

and this chair: http://www.potterybarn.com/products/preston-upholstered-barrel-armchair/?pkey=cupholstered-occasional-chairs

go together?

My living room gets lots of natural light and has high ceilings. I was thinking about a muted blue color for the walls that matches the little bit of the blue in the chairs. What do you think?

  • I think you can make it work.

  • Yes.  It totally works.  What is on the floor?  Carpeting, Hardwood....

Light beige carpet for now. We will keep it for a couple of years, and then probably put in ceramic tile that matches the tile in the foyer and kitchen, large light beige tiles. We will definitely want to get a large area rug at that point.

  • The brown sofa will stand out against the beige carpet.  I would take a bit of the beige carpet to Pottery Barn and check out the beige carpet against the beige background on the chair.   In my other house, I had a beige carpet and had problems with the beige patterned sofa.  One beige was green toned and one beige was oranged toned.  I could not tell that they clashed until they were side by side.
  • I don't think they go together. The chair is totally cute and fun, but the sofa, although it might coordinate color-wise, is very cheap bachelor pad. That sounds horribly harsh, but I really don't like the sofa and you could do so much with the chair (blue walls, like you suggested, would look great).
