Making couple friends

My H & I were wondering what is the best way to find couples our age in our area. We would love to have a more active social life. Any suggestions?

Re: Making couple friends

  • Community events, block parties, sites like meetup.com. Meetup sort of replaced the group/club boards in community places. I used to hang out with a group from there before I moved towns. Perhaps your area would have good opportunities?

  • We meet other couples through the activities we do. I like working with animals and my husband likes teaching sailing so we just invite people to do things with us. We set up things that are fun and every once in a while we makes friends with the people. It requires putting yourself out there. Don't expect to just make friends without having to work on it. It takes a lot of effort and is doubly hard to meet people where you like both of them. We set up golf foursomes with people we don't know. We take classes. We just talk to people. If my husband meets someone fun he invites them sailing with us. 9 times out of 10 we don't always see them again but other times we set up other activities. Remember other couples crave the same thing. Don't be afraid to set things up. Start with people you work with or your husband works with. Invite them to dinner or meet them at a restaurant. Take dance lessons invite others out afterwards or something that would interest you. It is the same as dating. You need to find people that you have something else in common with. Do the activities and you will attract people.
