We are currently shopping for new carpet. I'm looking for something that can handle stains, especially pet stains and obviously Stainmaster was recommended to us at Lowes. If you have Stainmaster, do you love it or would you recommend something else?
Re: Stainmaster carpet?
We are having stainmaster put in our new housee so I haven't lived with it yet. For this reason I am defintely not an expert. However, I can tell you that waterproof carpet pad (sometimes refered to as a puppy pad) is AMAZING. It is similar to regular carpet pad but has a thin layer of plastic adhered to each side. We had this installed in our old house and it was tremendously helpful with stains. We don't have pets but we do have three kids and the baby spit-up, spilled drinks, mud, etc. came right up when we shampooed the carpets and didn't leave a mark.
I think the worst spill on the carpet was when my three-year-old spilled an entire bottle of bubble solution on the carpet. I scrubbed it and tried to soak it up with towels but it ended up leaving a big circle about 6" in diameter. We rented a Rug Doctor from Lowe's and cleaned the room. Not only did the entire stain come up but we never had an issue where the stain eventually works its was back up from the carpet pad. It was really and truly gone.
We are in an aparment right now and they have regular carpet pad. The carpets looked clean when we moved in but within a week all of the stains from the carpet pad had worked their way back to the surface and it looks horrible. For this reason we decided to put the waterproof pad under all the carpet in our new house. I don't ever want stains to come back from the pad if I can easily remedy the problem with an upgraded pad.
