Thanksgiving/Christmas decor help
New to this board. Hi.
We were asked to host Thanksgiving at our place this year and I?m trying to figure out how to set the scene. DH and I are BIG Christmas folks and we start decorating pretty early so I was wondering if any of you had ideas on how to tastefully decorate for Thanksgiving when Christmas d?cor is also in preparation. Waiting until after Thanksgiving to decorate for Christmas is not an option due to our schedules but any other ideas are welcome.
Thanks for your help.
Re: Thanksgiving/Christmas decor help
If you plan to start decorating for christmas...then I would say just decorate for christmas, trying to do fall and winter themes in one area screams sensory overload to me! I think its close enough to christmastime (and if you are christmas fantics and people know that) that I would rather just see chrismas stuff then trying to do something dififerent for both at the same time.
A compromise might be to just do the warmer tones stuff now....put out your reds/plaids, candles, etc out, but keep any penguin/snowflake cool colored stuff put away until after thanksgiving...then its half done but still feels more like a warm holiday decor then "themey".

I think metallics work well for both. Also, I'd say focus on the table, since that is what Thanksgiving is centered around. Get a gold/silver/whatever table cloth, some candles, napkin rings, place cards, and/or whatever else you want. Those small decorative gourds scream Thanksgiving, too, if you want.
I don't think you need to decorate any more than that. If you are concerned about it being too Christmas-y, just stash the Santas or whatever for the day, but most stuff can be left alone. I think winter-y things like evergreen and snowflakes can be lovely at Thanksgiving.
I'd use a greenery base and change (if you have time) the accents tucked in. Pine cones, burlap ribbon, and fruit really work for now; tuck in ball ornaments closer to Christmas. This is my most popular pin - 71 repins! Similar ideas: one, two, three
