transitional work clothes for post-partum

So I know I asked before about PP weight loss...I am slowly losing weight now that I have been cleared to exercise.  Haven't weighed myself but some of the transition jeans I bought are getting loose.

I have decided to give it a go at going back to work after Thanksgiving.  Maternity work pants are not part of my plan for wardrobe, haha.  None of my pre-pg pants fit yet, though.  I do have a bunch of flowy tops that I wore when I was trying to hide the fact that I was pg.

Do you think wrap dresses are a good transition item?  They seem to be the most forgiving with weight fluctuations.

Also need to consider that I will be nursing, so the easier I can get situated for pumping, the better.  Button down shirts?

Do you wear real bras to work?  or nursing tanks underneath other shirts/sweaters?

  • I would think button down shirts or cardis.  You can always leave the cardi open or unbotton it and have your tank on underneath.

With regard to your pants, is a bella band an option for your pp pants?  I am still in all of my pp work pants with the help of a bella band and I am hoping to make it to February without spending money on pants for work. If you need one, I bought mine at Target.

  • I went back to work 8 weeks PP and I transitioned back starting with maternity pants (mine had the full band), then back to my regular work pants with a hair tie around the button until I could eventually button my pants again.

I've been pumping this whole time and dresses are not great when pumping.  I wear nursing tanks and either a shirt/sweater/cardigan.  I tried wearing a underwire nursing bra but I couldn't get the cups to flip down enough and it was causing issues with the way the flanges suctioned.  Could just be an issue with the bra I had.

Do you have the hands free pumping bra?  Get it. Total lifesaver to have both hands free.

  • Good call on the hands-free bra.  Yes, I plan on getting one.  I will have to pump during my free period (when I should be doing lesson prep)...so being able to multi-task is a necessity since my goal is to not have to bring any work home.

I think I am also going to get a second set of pump parts to make things easier.

I only have one underwire nursing bra - but I don't want to wear it every day for fear of plugged ducts.  I'm thinking nursing tanks will be easier and I have 8 of them.

I hated the belly band in the earlier part of pregnancy...I will try on my pants with a rubber band and see how that looks.  Hope my shirts are long enough haha

  • Good to know about the pumping when the time comes for me.

I too hated the band in the early part of my pregnancy and started to use the hair tie.  It worked like a charm.  I only started to wear the band again recently and it has been great during my second tri.

  • I didn't like the bella band while pregnant but I used it a lot afterwards in those first few months. I didn't want to buy any new clothes since I was determined to get into my old size.

Leggings and tunics/long cardigans are also a good option!

haha - anything clingy with high school boys is not a good option!

I tried on a few of my looser pre-pg work pants and I can't get them over my hips.  Luckily Gap and BR outlets emailed me coupons for this weeked so DD and I are taking a road trip!

  • i think best bet it to buy a couple of pairs of pants to get you back. i mean i would hate to even have unbuttoned pants even if covered with teenage boys about!
