Don't know why I was so shocked.

So we went to dinner last night with BIL & SIL and another couple. MIL agreed to watch all 3 kids (our kiddo and their 2 girls) at our home (we live in the apartment attached to their house).  I even asked her on Tuesday "so are you ready for all 3 kids tomorrow night?" at which she expressed sheer enthusiasm.

Fast forward to dessert and after dinner drinks. H and BIL both receive texts, simply: "I wanna go home now".

We got there a little after 11, she gave the kiddo to us, said he was trying so har dot go to sleep but cried every time she put him in the crib, then bolted out the back door.

What in the actual fluck is her deal?!

I would say it's unbelievable, but sadly that would be a lie. I asked H before we went to sleep what her deal is and he let out a sigh saying he didn't know and that she is just "not a very...graceful...person." I just think he doesn't know what to say anymore. They figure she's not going to change her ways and we are eventually moving so why bother but I'm so over it.

  • Your MIL stories amaze me.  So one minute she's ready & seems excited to watch the kids.  The next she can't get out the door fast enough.  That would be hard to deal with!

  • Ditto @ky29. We don't have kids, but probably will try soon, and my MIL is a specific type of crazy who will probably give me stories like yours.

    lol. Well put.

  • Don't agree to babysit if you don't want to do it! I mean, if someone says you're going out for the evening, at least plan to be there for several hours and be ready to put the kids to bed, whatever that entails. I used to baby-sit and the kids would cry for awhile in their crib. It's what happens sometimes... you learn to deal with it. I wonder how she was able to handle having her own kids!

But your MIL has always been something else...

Some friends of ours have the same problem. When we hosted our house warming party, they had his parents watch their LO and within an hour or so of being there, they had to leave because his mom wanted to go home. What's the point in even going out if that's what happens?
